Job Description

As an Electrical Systems Support Specialist, you will play a critical role at the forefront of our hardware development initiatives. You will be responsible for the assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of advanced power converter hardware systems. In this hands-on position, you'll work closely with engineers to support the design, prototyping, and production of next-generation power conversion technologies. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge innovation and help drive the global shift toward electrification.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assemble and wire high-voltage power converter units and subassemblies per engineering drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Perform electrical testing, diagnostics, and troubleshooting on power systems up to [insert voltage level, e.g., 15kV/50kW+].
  • Support engineering teams during the development and validation of new products and prototypes.
  • Operate high-voltage test equipment including oscilloscopes, power analyzers, HV probes, and insulation testers.
  • Maintain and calibrate tools, instruments, and test equipment.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures and protocols when working with high voltage systems.
  • Document test results, issues, and modifications accurately.
  • Assist in the setup of test benches and lab infrastructure for high-power testing.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in the build and test workflow.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Power Converter Assembly & Wiring: Assist in the assembly and wiring of power converter systems, including AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC topologies. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Prototype Support: Build, solder, and modify prototype boards and test fixtures under the direction of engineers. Assist in setting up and preparing hardware for performance evaluations.
  • Testing and Validation: Perform electrical testing on high-voltage and high-power hardware. Support test execution following established procedures and help collect and record data. Familiar with basic testing techniques such as double-pulse tests and voltage/current measurements.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot component-level and system-level issues in collaboration with engineering teams. Use test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power analyzers, and thermal cameras to diagnose problems.
  • Hardware Integration Support: Assist in integrating hardware modules with control systems and embedded software. Ensure proper electrical connections and support debugging efforts.
  • Safety & Compliance: Follow all lab safety procedures and ensure safe practices when working with high-voltage and high-current systems. Support electrical insulation, grounding, and compliance testing activities.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, quality teams, and other technicians to meet project milestones and support prototype and production builds.
  • Tools & Equipment: Proficient in the use of standard electrical lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power analyzers, function generators, and insulation testers. Skilled in handling hand tools, soldering irons, crimping tools, and wire harnessing equipment for precise assembly and rework. Responsible for ensuring all lab tools and measurement instruments are properly maintained and calibrated. Familiarity with lab automation and instrumentation control software (e.g., LabVIEW, Python-based tools) is a plus.
  • High-Power and Medium-Voltage Systems: Hands-on experience working with high-power converter systems operating at medium-voltage levels (e.g., 1 kV - 35 kV). Familiar with best practices for handling, assembling, and testing high-energy systems in lab or field environments. Knowledge of electrical safety protocols and standards related to medium-voltage applications. Medium-voltage safety training is highly valued and can be provided for qualified candidates.

Qualifications
  • Diploma or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field. Bachelor's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a high-voltage or power electronics environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Proficient in soldering, crimping, and harness fabrication.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and PPE for high-voltage work
  • Experience with high-power testing equipment and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of power electronics (IGBTs, MOSFETs, rectifiers, inverters).
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Certifications in OSHA, LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), or HV Safety Certification preferred.
