Chugai Pharmabody Research Pte. Ltd. ("CPR") was established in Singapore as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd (Chugai), a member of Roche group, in January 2012 and started operations on July 2, 2012. Located at Biopolis in Singapore, it aims to generate new antibody drugs based on Chugai's proprietary antibody engineering technologies, such as recycling antibody®, sweeping antibody®, bispecific antibody, various Fc engineered antibodies, and other new antibody engineering technologies that are under development.

Position - Research Scientist in Protein Production Unit

CPR is seeking a Scientist with expertise in protein engineering and producing of various proteins, and experience of the leading projects of a drug discovery. The candidate has strong expertise in protein expression/purification, structure-based protein analysis and/or engineering. The candidate will be responsible for contributing to novel technology development and drug discoveryprojects through providing proteins.

Job Requirements

• Developing efficient methods and strategies for expressing and purifying difficult-to-handle proteins.
• Designing proteins for better productivity, stability, activity, etc.
• Protein expression using mammalian cell, E.coli, insect cell, or cell-free expression system.
• Protein purification with column chromatography (affinity, ion exchange, HIC, size exclusion etc.) using system such as AKTA system.
• Production of difficult-to-handle proteins including membrane proteins and/or intracellular proteins so that it can be used for immunization, screening of antibody drug candidates, functional assays etc.
• Physicochemical characterization, analysis of proteins and/or structural analysis.

The applicant must have completed and be awarded with a relevant Master's degree or Ph.D degree in science or related field (not in the process of achieving it). The successful candidates must be able to demonstrate their protein production and protein engineering expertise as evidenced by projects, presentations, or peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Scientists with strong passion in medical science for creating and delivering innovative drugs to society which leads to saving patients suffering from unmet medical needs are highly desired. As frequent communication and liaison is expected between both the Singapore and Japan office, you should possess an excellent command of both spoken and written Japanese and English languages, excellent organizational and communication skills, team player mindset, as well as the ability to perform multi-task.
