The Project Officer serves as the practical in-charge for teaching modules, overseeing the full cycle from planning to logistical execution. It involves coaching and guiding team members in laboratory techniques, ensuring task prioritization and operational efficiency. The position is responsible for troubleshooting and refining experimental procedures to consistently achieve reliable results. Effective communication with stakeholders is essential to manage expectations and deliver practical, capacity-aligned solutions. The role also ensures the implementation of university guidelines and SOPs within the teaching laboratory, manages budgets and expenditures for modules and outreach programs, and oversees equipment maintenance through routine assessments and coordination with technical experts.

Key Responsibilities:
Teaching Lab Operations
- Plan, prepare, and support hands-on undergraduate practical sessions.
- Liaise with course coordinators on experiment requirements and safety aspects.
- Prepare reagents and set up laboratory instruments according to module needs.
- Brief Teaching Assistants (TAs) on experimental procedures and lab safety.
- Provide on-site technical assistance to students during lab sessions.
- Conduct trial runs and troubleshoot existing/new experimental protocols to ensure data reproducibility.
Procurement & Inventory
- Prepare budgets for each teaching module.
- Procure necessary consumables, equipment, and materials for lab use.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and inventory logs.
- Track incoming/outgoing equipment and laboratory apparatus.
Facility & Equipment Maintenance
- Perform regular housekeeping and maintenance of lab instruments before and after sessions.
- Act as Equipment-In-Charge for scheduling repair and preventive maintenance.
- Maintain the chemical and consumables inventory, ensuring proper storage and usage.
- Report facility issues related to infrastructure and utilities in teaching lab venues.
Safety Compliance
- Ensure chemical and biological materials are stored and recorded in accordance with the NTU Office of Health and Safety guidelines.
- Properly manage and dispose of laboratory waste.
- Reinforce safety protocols during all lab activities.
- Participate in first aid, spill management, and fire drills as part of the school's Emergency Response Plan.
- Prepare Risk Assessments for laboratory practices and ensure compliance with NTU safety policies.
Administrative and School Support
- Support departmental outreach activities and other administrative duties as required.
Job Requirements:
- A degree in Life Sciences or a related discipline.
- Works independently, team player and inter-departmental collaborations.
- Manage and encourage team members and ensure accountability.
- Willing to uptake new projects and handles well under pressure and minimal supervision.
- Adapt and adopt changes with the sharing of suggestions and solutions.
- Familiar with usage of general lab equipment and lab planning with preparation work.
- Familiar with lab safety requirements and risks involved in lab operations.
- Handling of course coordinators and undergraduates and resolving any conflicts.
- Familiar with mammalian, and bacterial cell cultures, molecular biological techniques (PCR, electrophoresis, proteins induction and purification, Western blot, ELISA, etc.), biochemical reactions (protein testing assays, carbohydrate and, lipid tests, etc.), immunohistochemistry, and histology (tissues, cells and organs), microscopy work, basic cytometry and preparations and minimal animal work (Dissection and harvesting of organs).
