Our client is a market leader in the shipping sector, headquartered in Singapore, with a strong global footprint. They are currently seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join their in-house legal team and support a broad range of maritime and commercial legal matters.

The Role:

• Provide legal advice on various commercial contracts, including charter parties, shipbuilding agreements, repair and conversion contracts, and marine insurance policies
• Handle legal issues arising from maritime incidents such as collisions, groundings, pollution, salvage, ship arrests, and cargo disputes
• Assist in the mediation and resolution of complex legal disputes and claims in relation to vessel operations and marine liabilities
• Interpret and apply relevant international maritime laws and conventions, including those governing vessel safety, pollution, and regulatory compliance
• Draft and review legal documentation and provide input on risk mitigation strategies for shipping operations
• Stay updated on global maritime legal developments and advise internal stakeholders on their implications

To Qualify:

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Law; admitted to practice in a recognized jurisdiction
• Minimum of 6 years' relevant legal experience, preferably with exposure to shipping, marine, or insurance law
• Prior experience as in-house counsel in the maritime industry or with a law firm handling shipping-related cases is highly preferred
• Familiarity with international maritime conventions and shipping regulations
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
• Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• This is a full-time position based in Singapore
