Job Description
The Mechanobiology Institute (MBI) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is a leading multi-disciplinary institute devoted to developing new paradigms for understanding biological functions in health and diseases from the perspective of cell, tissue and organ mechanics/dynamics and mechano-signal transduction. The institute operates on a fully integrated open-lab philosophy, with an extensive infrastructure supported by core facilities dedicated to technology such as state-of-the-art light microscopy, nano- and micro- fabrication, and computing.
We are seeking to hire a motivated Research Fellow with a background in engineering to work on microfluidic related research in Prof. Lim Chwee Teck's lab. Prof. Lim's lab is dedicated to microfluidics research with applications in the areas of disease diagnosis, point-of-care diagnostics, cell based assays and wearable sensor technology. The candidate will have the opportunity to work on these various areas of research and be involved in the design and fabrication of microfluidic devices as well as collaborating with our clinical partners on the testing, validation and possible commercialization of these devices.
Qualifications
The candidate should:
• Hold a PhD degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering or its equivalent
• Have at least 3 years' experience in microfluidics research, microfabrication, cell culture, microscopy and image analysis
• Be a highly motivated, organized and responsible individual who can work independently as well as part of a team
• Be prepared to engage in high interdisciplinary research and develop new research directions
• Be able to help mentor, supervise and train junior staff members and students
• Have a proven record of outstanding written, oral presentation and communications skills
• Have excellent skills in project management
• Have the ability to work on grant proposals including writing, meeting with collaborators, and reviewing proposal opportunities from government and other sources
