Executive, Conservation & Science (Life Sciences Registrar)

The Life Sciences Registrar manages records and provides reports related to the Singapore Oceanarium's animals, and where necessary, threatened plant population. This position ensures the maintenance and quality of all animal records, serves as a liaison and information source to animal care and veterinary staff, and is responsible for the overall documentation of animal transactions and associated permits. This position would report to the Manager for Conservation & Science - Population Sustainability.
Job Responsibilities:
Maintenance of Animal Records
Responsible for the maintenance and updating of various manual and computerized animal record keeping systems, including:
• Inventorying, documenting, and identifying all animals and protected plants in the Oceanarium's collection.
• Recording births, deaths, reproductive histories, shipments, and other notes related to acquisitions, dispositions, transfers, health and behavior.
• Coordinating with animal care and veterinary staff to obtain/verify records information, completion of transactions and other information needed.
• Regularly reviewing recordkeeping procedures and implementing improvements to current standards of record management.
• Training animal care staff in quality data inputs and database improvements
Animal Translocations
Assist with a variety of tasks related to animal transport and translocations including:
• Preparing and tracking documentation including internal approval processes for all the animal and plant acquisition and dispositions.
• Assisting with logistical planning and records of translocations, including international transfers.
• Procuring, maintaining, and renewing necessary licenses and permits required for the maintenance and transport of wildlife and plants that require permits for holding at the Oceanarium.
• Establishing working relationships with records management staff at other zoological institutions, as well as local and international regulatory personnel.
Reporting
• Prepare various reports related to animal records and inventory, as well as provide institution data for studbook reports, questionnaires, surveys, and Species Survival Plan (SSP) updates.
• Serve as a liaison to the International Species Information System (ISIS), including submitting data to the system, as well as analyzing and disseminating data received.
*This position may at times be requested to perform other duties or special projects as assigned, which are in the best interest of the Singapore Oceanarium.
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor's Degree in biological science or related strongly preferred.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in a zoological setting.
• Experience with Tracks, OERCA, ZIMS or other animal management software/databases strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of inventory accession and general record management principles and practices, including zoo registration methods and collection management standards.
• Knowledge of local statutes, guidelines and requirements related to maintaining a zoological population, as well as those regulating animal acquisition, disposition, exhibition, husbandry standards and transportation.
• Knowledge of general zoological and veterinary medical terminology.
• Strong computer skills required.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
