Job Description

The Curriculum Specialist for English plays a critical role in elevating literacy outcomes for Primary and Secondary students from low-income backgrounds. This position leads curriculum innovation and professional development in English Language, supports targeted academic interventions, and enhances instructional practices through evidence-based approaches. The Specialist will also coach and tutor students in English when required, contributing both at the systems and student-facing levels.

Job Responsibilities

1. Curriculum Design & Pedagogical Innovation
  • Design and drive evidence-informed curriculum projects that address the literacy and language learning needs of Primary and Secondary students, particularly from underserved communities.
  • Prototype innovative English teaching strategies in collaboration with tutors-focused on reading comprehension, writing, language awareness, and differentiated instruction.
  • Develop and deliver professional development resources and sessions that enhance tutor effectiveness and classroom impact.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners (e.g., MOE educators, NGOs, universities) to embed 21st-century competencies such as communication, critical thinking, and digital literacy into English instruction.
  • Ensure alignment with the latest MOE English syllabuses and foster a culture of reflective teaching grounded in student data and outcomes.

2. Student Academic Support
  • Provide direct tutoring and academic coaching in English for Primary and Secondary students who need additional help, with a focus on building language confidence and mastery.
  • Cover tutor duties as needed to support continuity of learning and maintain quality delivery in the CDAC Tuition Programme.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, or a related field.
  • Strong subject matter expertise in English Language and Literacy, with a deep understanding of MOE curriculum expectations and assessment standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and implementation, especially in literacy interventions or enrichment for struggling learners.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, co-create resources, and mentor others, particularly in contexts serving under-resourced communities.
  • Highly student-centred, adaptable, and capable of translating research into practice for diverse learning profiles.
  • Effective communicator with strong project management and facilitation skills.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends when required, with moderate travel across CDAC Centres and partner schools.
