Role Purpose

The role of Strategy Director at Dentsu is that of a collaborator and thinker within the network on a regional, global and market level to spark ideas and facilitate cross-pollination of strategic initiatives, and ensure the right solutions are offered to our clients. The successful individual will be able to lead the effort to deliver Dentsu's vision of Innovating for Impact with new products, services and ways of working and advocacy of capabilities, solutions, tools and data sources with new and existing clients.

This individual will take the role of a thought leader for the client from within the agency, sharing insight and points of view with the wider Dentsu business, including regular contributions to internal communication platforms & events with thinking at the forefront of new technology and trends. The individual will be called to develop relevant strategic platforms that inspire innovative comms activation to solve client business needs, both on existing clients and in new business efforts, through the use of proprietary consumer research, device-level and first-party data sources and industry research. The individual must be able to anticipate client needs, providing strategic guidance and deep dives into new areas ahead of asks, in a way that brings greater focus, alignment, and consistency in the work.

Key areas of impact and development include:
  • Facilitating the development of more impactful and integrated communication solutions working with client leaders and dynamic teams drawn from across lines of business. Clarifying complex marketing challenges, using client and agency data sources.
  • Forming strong relationships with very senior (up to c-level) clients and ensuring Strategy delivered by Dentsu is an essential POV to navigate their business and marketing initiatives
  • Raising agency profile within the industry and taking a leading role in new business and upselling capabilities, and solutions to new and existing clients.
  • Developing ways to connect strategy outcomes and audiences into a platform( eg: Google Meta, TikTok, etc and media practices like search, programmatic, performance etc to enhance integrated communication solutions and client outcomes. This could include the use of audience marketplaces and clean rooms, to improve targeting precision and ensure data privacy compliance across client campaigns.
  • Evangelizing strategy across the organization by collaborating with planning teams to upskill them on full-funnel strategy, integrating awareness, consideration, and conversion stages to align with client marketing objectives.

The Strategy Director will need to lead client work and strategy through ideas and guidance on key growth accounts and new business opportunities by:
  • Defining/input into the 'Go-to-Market' Strategy led by media as well as defining roles for media mix and user journey/ecosystem
  • Establishing best practice strategic processes, success metrics and KPIs
  • Input into QBRs and collaborate with client team and agency partners to understand marketing objectives and build them into success metrics, KPIs and reports in a way that elevates the thinking on the business.
  • Championing and leading the effort to deliver Dentsu's vision of Innovating for Impact with new products, services and ways of working and advocacy of capabilities, solutions, tools and data sources with new and existing clients.
  • Developing strategic platforms that inspire innovative comms activation to solve client business needs, both on existing clients and in new business efforts, through the use of proprietary consumer research, device-level and first party data sources and industry research
  • Structuring and facilitating of integrated strategic initiatives, training and best practice sharing with agency stakeholders, working closely with APAC talent development/HR, and key clients
  • Anticipating client needs, providing strategic guidance and deep dives into new areas ahead of asks, in a way that brings greater focus, alignment, and consistency in the work. Experience in BFSI is preferred.

Support developing opportunities for diversification of client business and introducing out-of-scope services from Dentsu's suite of offerings, including data, product and partnerships teams, including:
  • Analytics and measurement of effectiveness
  • Data & audience data management for sizing, targeting and delivering media through platforms and partners
  • Research and Insights product across Agile, Bespoke and Self-Serve product levels
  • Content, customer experience & opportunities for creative capabilities
  • Commerce and e-commerce consultancy, media and partnerships

Leadership or support role in new business pitches, working alongside internal client teams and markets across APAC to project manage, coordinate, develop and present new business work, often within an intense frequency and pace.

A Bit About You

Knowledge & Interpersonal Skills:
  • An approachable, inspiring individual and independent thinker who understands how to lead through influence and across cross-functional and capability teams to influence and elevate collaborative outcomes. Experience working in agency environments, leading pitches and with multiple stakeholders is a must.
  • You can THINK Global but ACT Local. You should be comfortable when immersed in market and media understanding and can demonstrate experience in distilling this understanding into ideas, projects and ideas that drive value for clients. Experience of working on large accounts and integrated international marketing campaigns, either as part of a local team working with a regional/global hub or vice versa.
  • You have experience in distilling business performance, conversion journeys and broad digital knowledge into long-term and short-term goals and projects that drive value for clients.
  • Skilled with audience data and insight and an understanding of how these can be used to formulate strategic decisions. A passion for delivering exceptional & innovative media plans
  • Confident and convincing communicator and presenter with the ability to plan and prioritise projects for greater personal and team effectiveness.

Requirements:
  • At least 8 years of relevant marketing/media agency experience in a strategy capacity
  • Solid understanding of all media channels both offline and online and have proven track record of developing winning media strategies for large clients in the past.
  • Understanding of audience segmentation and audience analysis and the role it plays in marketing strategy.
  • Good understanding of customer's owned channel platforms such as CRM and the likes.
  • Familiar of marketing tech platforms.
