Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative MEMS Device Designer/Scientist to join our advanced research and development team at Lab-in-Fab, IME. The successful candidate will lead the design, development, and optimization of MEMS devices across a wide range of transduction mechanisms targeting diverse applications such as ultrasound imaging, air-coupled sensing, microfluidics, environmental monitoring, actuators emerging applications.

This role offers the opportunity to work on end-to-end MEMS development, from conceptual design and simulation to prototyping and process integration. The candidate will collaborate closely with process engineers, application teams, and industry partners to translate cutting-edge MEMS concepts into scalable, high-performance products.

Candidates with industry experience are preferred, this position is open to those with backgrounds not only in MEMS but also in adjacent areas such as MEMS device packaging, system integration, and MEMS device testing. Experience in bringing MEMS or sensor-based technologies to market will be considered a strong asset.

Device Design:
  • Design and develop MEMS devices, including PMUTs (Piezoelectric Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers), micro speakers, sensors, and actuators, for applications in ultrasound imaging, gesture recognition, microfluidics, and beyond.
  • Perform device-level modeling and simulation using tools such as COMSOL (preferred), CoventorWare, or ANSYS. Optimize performance metrics-including resonance frequency, bandwidth, sensitivity, and power consumption-based on application-specific requirements.
  • Collaborate with ASIC designers to enable MEMS-CMOS co-design and co-integration, ensuring electrical compatibility and performance optimization for system-level applications.
  • Work closely with hardware and software engineering teams to integrate MEMS devices into complete systems, ensuring functional interoperability and robustness in end-use scenarios.
  • Experience in sensor packaging, reliability testing, and system integration is highly valued, especially in translating device prototypes into manufacturable and scalable solutions for industry deployment.

Process Platform Development:
  • Drive the development of advanced process platform to establish leadership in piezoelectric MEMS technology. Collaborate closely with process teams to innovate and optimize MEMS structures
  • Develop and execute testing protocols for MEMS acoustic devices, including acoustic, mechanical, and electrical characterization.
  • Analyze experimental data to validate designs and identify areas for improvement.

Research and Innovation:
  • Stay up to date with advancements in MEMS technology, ultrasound systems, and piezoelectric materials.
  • Contribute to scientific publications, patents, and conference presentations.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Ph.D., Master or bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, or a related field.

Experience:
  • Preferred candidates with at least 5 years of experience in MEMS device design and development, as well as a proven track record in product development and commercialization within the MEMS industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in piezoelectric transducer design
  • Hands-on experience with MEMS fabrication processes and characterization tools.

Skills:
  • Proficiency in simulation tools such as COMSOL Multiphysics, ANSYS, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of MEMS fabrication techniques, including lithography, etching, and thin-film deposition.
  • Familiarity with acoustic characterization techniques (e.g., impedance analysis, laser Doppler vibrometry, ultrasound imaging, wafer level measurement).
  • Strong programming and data analysis skills (MATLAB, Python, etc.).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
