Communications & Advocacy Manager

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Singapore
The Communications and Advocacy Manager is responsible for leading the SPCA's communications strategy and supporting its advocacy goals through impactful storytelling, public engagement, and media relations. This role works closely with the Head (Community Engagement) to build a strong, cohesive voice for the SPCA that resonates with internal and external stakeholders, while driving awareness of animal welfare issues and the SPCA's work.
Key responsibilities include:
Strategic Communications
- Develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies to enhance SPCA's visibility, credibility, and public engagement.
- Oversee content and messaging across all platforms to ensure alignment with SPCA's mission and
tone.
- Create targeted messaging for key audiences.
Media & Public Relations
- Draft press releases and media statements; manage media queries and prepare regular coverage
reports.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with media outlets and journalists.
- Proactively pitch stories and news angles to amplify the SPCA's voice and campaigns.
- Act as a key liaison for media at events.
Advocacy & Campaigns
- Support the planning and execution of advocacy campaigns that influence public awareness,
behaviour, and policy.
- Translate complex animal welfare issues into compelling public narratives and calls to action.
- Work with internal teams to develop communications materials that support advocacy objectives
(e.g. factsheets, infographics, op-eds).
- Engage external partners and stakeholders to broaden campaign reach and impact.
Public & Stakeholder Enquiries
- Manage and respond to public and stakeholder enquiries received through social media, email, and website platforms, ensuring timely, accurate, and compassionate communication. - Work with internal departments to ensure consistent messaging and appropriate follow-up where needed.
General & Cross-functional Support
- Manage communications volunteers and provide oversight on editorial and campaign content. - Provide support for SPCA-led projects and events. - Collaborate with other departments to gather stories and impact data for external communications.
Requirements Experience:
- Minimum 2 years in a similar position
- Experience in the not-for-profit or animal related sector an advantage
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Communications/Marketing or other related fields
Other requirements:
- Passion for animal protection and knowledge of animal welfare issues
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Possess multidisciplinary project skills and able to work under the pressure of various concurrent
priorities
- Able to work independently and in teams, meticulous and detail oriented.
