We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Sommelier to elevate the wine experience at the revitalized 1939. You will be instrumental in curating and managing our wine program, with a special emphasis on our unique selection of organic and natural wines, and guiding our guests through an exceptional vinous journey. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a sophisticated F&B concept and work alongside an award-winning team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Wine Service & Consultation: Provide expert wine recommendations and engaging service to guests across our dining concepts, particularly at our Level 2 restaurant, enhancing their dining experience through thoughtful pairings and insightful knowledge.
  • Wine List Management: Assist in the ongoing development and curation of 1939's comprehensive wine list, with a focus on sourcing unique and high-quality organic, biodynamic, and sustainable wines from around the world.
  • Inventory & Cellar Management: Oversee wine inventory, procurement, ordering, receiving, and proper cellar conditions to ensure optimal storage and availability.
  • Cost Control & Sales: Contribute to managing wine costs, analyze sales trends, and implement strategies to maximize wine revenue.
  • Staff Training: Conduct regular training sessions for service staff on wine knowledge, pairing principles, and proper wine service techniques to ensure a consistent and elevated guest experience.
  • Stock Rotation & Quality Control: Ensure proper stock rotation, minimize wastage, and maintain the highest standards of wine quality and presentation.
  • Glassware & Equipment: Maintain and manage all wine-related equipment and glassware.

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sommelier or Assistant Sommelier in a reputable fine dining restaurant or a high-volume F&B establishment.
  • Relevant certifications from recognized wine education bodies (e.g., WSET Level 2 or 3, CMS Certified Sommelier, or equivalent).
  • Extensive and passionate knowledge of wines, spirits, and beers, with a particular interest and expertise in organic, biodynamic, and natural wines.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to confidently and engagingly interact with guests and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in inventory management and cellar maintenance.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • A true passion for hospitality and a commitment to continuous learning in the world of wine.
