Job Summary:

Seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Sheet Metal Designer to join our engineering team.
The ideal candidate will support the design and development of sheet metal parts and assemblies for a wide range of applications including enclosures, brackets, panels, and structural components.
Combines design skills with research and development tasks, typically involving creating 2D and 3D drawings, exploring new materials and fabrication techniques, and contributing to product improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in designing sheet metal parts and assemblies based on specifications and requirements.
• Develop and modify sheet metal designs using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, DesignCad).
• Creating flat patterns for bending, developing exploded views, and preparing fabrication drawings.
• Explore new materials, manufacturing processes (e.g., laser cutting, CNC bending), and design techniques to improve product performance and efficiency.
• Work with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are feasible and cost-effective.
• Contribute to the development of new sheet metal products, including prototyping, testing, and refinement.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to resolve design issues.
• Identify and address design challenges, such as ensuring structural integrity, optimizing material use, and minimizing manufacturing costs.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards and tolerances.
• Maintain design files and records according to internal processes.

Skills and Experience Requirements:

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 0-2 years of experience in sheet metal design or mechanical drafting.
• Proficient in CAD software, knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes, and understanding of material properties.
• Basic understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes (cutting, bending, welding, etc.)
• Ability to analyse designs, identify potential issues, and propose solutions.
• Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred:

• Internship or project experience in mechanical or sheet metal design.
• Exposure to PDM systems (e.g., SolidWorks PDM).
• Knowledge of materials used in sheet metal work (e.g., aluminum, stainless steel).
• Familiarity with manufacturing standards such as ASME or ISO.
