About Singapore Canoe Federation:

The Singapore Canoe Federation (SCF) was founded in 1971 and is the National Sports Association responsible for the management, coordination, development and promotion of paddling in Singapore. It represents the interest of its athletes and members to Sport Singapore (Previously known as the Singapore Sports Council), the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC), and other international paddling bodies.

The SCF is an affiliate of both the Asian Canoe Confederation and the International Canoe Federation. As a non-profit organisation, the SCF relies mainly on its team of staff and volunteers. It is mainly funded by Sport Singapore.

Our Aims:

To promote opportunity for public participation in a full range of paddling activities in Singapore with high standards of safety. The key aspirations of the SCF are:

• Nurture and prepare its elite and potential elite athletes to medal at the SEA Games, Asian Games, Olympic Games and other regional/international competitions.

• Uphold high standards of sportsmanship.

• Champion the development and enjoyment by the public of all paddling disciplines in Singapore.

• Develop and promote Singapore as a venue of choice for regional/international paddling championships/events.

Role description:

The National Head Coach (Canoe Sprint- Canoe) will work under the direction of the Technical Director to coach and monitor the development of athletes in the National Squad (Canoe Sprint- Canoe) team.

The National Head Coach (Canoe Sprint - Canoe) reports to the Technical Director.

Responsibilities:

The role will cover these key areas of the organisation:

1. Coaching

1.1. Responsible for his/her athletes of the National Squad (Canoe Sprint - Canoe).

1.2. Assisting Technical Director for planning, supervising, organizing training programmes for athletes in the National Squad.

1.3. Work with Singapore Sports Institute and National Youth Sports Institute to perform relevant tests and make recommendations to monitor the progress for his/her athletes.

1.4. Plan and recommend programmes and competitions with theTechnical Director leading to major international competitions.

1.5. Provide a report on all overseas trips attended to the High Performance Manager.

2. Development

2.1. Assist in conducting courses/workshops for local coaching and athletes.

2.2. Identify potential athletes to join the National Squad.

2.3. Determine, plan, recommend and organize training programmes for the National Squad.

2.4. Familiarize himself/herself with the MYSP.

2.5. Provide quarterly reports to the Technical Director on progress of the athletes under his/her charge.

3. Other Responsibilities

3.1. To undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as required by the Technical Director.

4. Qualifications/Technical Requirements/Experience:

4.1. Minimally 2 years as a high performance canoe sprint -canoe coach, with experience in coaching athletes (either senior or age-group) successfully at international meets.

4.2. Minimally Bachelor's degree from a recognised university, preferably in sport science, sports psychology or sport management.

4.3. Possesses relevant international or local coaching certificate(s).

4.4. Experience in driving a high-performance system at least at national level.

4.5. A good understanding and/or willingness to utilise technology and performance monitoring tools.

4.6. Applicants who do not meet the above qualifications/requirements are welcome to apply and will be assessed based on technical experience and suitability.

5. Other requirements:

5.1. Possesses interpersonal and management skills to successfully motivate athletes.

5.2. Works effectively with people and shows respect and sensitivity to their needs.

5.3. Actively accommodates and implements change initiatives.

5.4. Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language.

5.5. Able to conceptualise and submit proposals, reports, and programmes independently.

5.6. Able to work on weekends and travel overseas for training camps and competitions.

5.7. Possession of Powered Pleasure Craft Driving Licence (PPCDL) or equivalent and First Aid certification will be an added advantage.
