A*STAR Skin Research Labs is driving innovation in skin science to identify and develop transformative solutions for skin health. We are seeking a highly motivated, independent, and resourceful Research Scientist to join our dynamic and fast-paced team. This role is focused on discovering and characterizing novel bioactive compounds for skin treatment applications.

The project goal is to identify, validate and develop novel actives for use in skin care formulations. The successful candidate will take a lead role in identifying plant-based and synthetic compounds for bioactivity using a range of invitro models. You will support active validation and productisation of novel actives. You will design and execute experiments using skin models, manage timelines, and contribute intellectually to shaping the direction of the project. This is a hands-on lab-based role ideal for someone who thrives on both scientific depth and operational independence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, execute, and troubleshoot cell-based and enzymatic assays for validating skin-relevant actives
• Run 3D skin model testing and analysis for select actives.
• Conduct in-depth literature reviews to support active selection
• Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables
• Write high-quality technical reports, experimental summaries, and internal presentations
• Prepare progress reports and regulatory documentation as required
• Contribute to grant applications, patent filings, and preparation of manuscripts for publication
• Support junior team members and help maintain lab best practices where appropriate

Qualifications and Skills:

• PhD in cell biology, pharmacology, biochemistry, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience with cell culture and bioassays
• Strong analytical skills and scientific curiosity; able to work independently and manage your own time
• Excellent critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills
• Experience with screening, compound chemistry or skin biology is advantageous but not essential
• Familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., GraphPad, Python, Excel, etc.)
• Prior experience in project coordination or collaboration across disciplines is a plus
