As an AI Scientist, you'll be part of a team working at the forefront of responsible AI. Your work will involve researching and testing large language models (LLMs), developing safety guardrails, and advancing ethical AI practices across government projects. You'll get the chance to work on real-world AI applications, explore the latest open-source tools, and collaborate with various partners including academic institutions and industry experts.

The responsibilities are as follows:

• Conduct safety and robustness testing on LLMs, including techniques such as prompt injections and jailbreak detection
• Develop or apply technical safety guardrails for government-facing LLM applications
• Fine-tune and align LLMs to meet internal safety and ethical requirements
• Collaborate with AI product teams to embed responsible AI practices into their workflows
• Share insights with public officers and contribute to technical discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions

We are looking for someone who has:

• Strong programming skills in Python, particularly for backend API development and ML performance optimization
• Experience with cloud platforms, especially AWS
• Solid understanding of LLMs, including how they function and how to build with them
• Passion for AI safety and ethics, with a proactive approach to research and experimentation
• Strong problem-solving skills and a desire to use tech for public good

It will be preferable if you can have the following expertise:

• Conducting LLM safety testing (e.g., prompt injections, jailbreaks)
• Using tools like NeMo, LLM-Guard, or similar to implement AI safety guardrails
• Developing and deploying LLM-based applications
