Animal Rescue Officer

Roles & Responsibilities :
The Animal Rescue Officer is responsible for attending to animal rescue cases. This includes retrieving animals, assessing rescued animals, and transportation of them back to the shelter or veterinary clinics for housing and medical attention.
The incumbent is expected to work in a shift system that encompasses public holidays and weekends. He/she needs to be physically fit in order to attend to animal rescue cases. He/she works largely in outdoor environments and through various weather conditions. The Animal Rescue Officer is expected to spend long hours driving to attend to rescue calls. When he/she is not attending to rescue calls, he/she is expected to assist in the care of animals within the shelter.
• Respond to animal rescue calls within a stipulated time frame
• Prioritise animal rescues according to level of risk and urgency
• Attend to animal rescue cases according to the organisation's safety protocols
• Transport animals to the shelter or nearest veterinary clinic for housing and medical attention
• Ensure that rescue vehicles, carriers, and all equipment are well-maintained and clean

Qualifications & Requirements:
• Education: Minimum GCE "N" or "O" level
• Experience: At least 1 - 2 years of animal handling experience
• Valid Class 3/3A driving license, at least 2 years driving experience
• Good road sense
• Patient and diplomatic
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
Technical Competencies:
Animal Handling and Restraint
• Safe and humane capture of frightened, injured, or aggressive animals
• Use of appropriate equipment (e.g. catch poles, muzzles, nets, cages)
• Understanding species-specific behaviours to minimise stress/injury
Operation of Rescue Equipment
• Operating rescue vehicles and loading/unloading animals safely
• Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in field operations and ensure personal and public safety
Knowledge of Animal Welfare Laws and SOPs
• Familiarity with animal welfare legislation (e.g. Animals and Birds Act)
• Adhering to Standard Operating Procedures and legal protocols
Incident Reporting and Documentation
• Accurate completion of case reports, incident logs, and follow-ups
• Use of digital tools or field apps to input rescue data
• Photographing and documenting conditions for evidence when needed
