About the Role
Senior Art Director (Harper's BAZAAR Singapore)
Harper's BAZAAR Singapore is the modern and sophisticated guide to the best in fashion, beauty, design, travel and the arts.
We are seeking a highly creative and detail-oriented Senior Art Director to lead and enhance the visual identity of the magazine. This individual will be responsible for designing and overseeing all visual aspects of print, digital and social media content, ensuring consistency across all platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of fashion trends, typography, layout design, and digital content creation, with a keen eye for aesthetics.
The Senior Art Director is expected to increase the profile and brand visibility of the title across all its platforms- from print and website to its social media channels and events-and act as a guardian of the title's identity and DNA.
The Senior Art Director will report directly to the Editor-in-Chief and work closely with the Associate Art Director and the team leads from the commercial, print, and digital departments.
Roles and responsibilities
• Brand Consistency: Implement and maintain consistency in visual style and branding across all products and platforms, including print, website, social media, commercial projects and marketing materials. Maintain the brand's unique aesthetic while innovating with fresh design ideas. Create and maintain a style guide to be used across the brand, directing in fonts, colour palettes, visual identity, etc
• Creative Direction: Lead the overall visual direction of the magazine, from cover design to in-depth editorial layouts for print, eye-catching cover images on web, as well as engaging interactives and graphics for social.
• Layouts & Design: Collaborate with editors, photographers, stylists and content producers to brainstorm and create compelling, visually appealing layout concepts for print, web and social, including photos, infographics and videos.
• Social Media Content: Collaborate with the editorial team to ideate and execute eye-catching, shareable content for the magazine's social media platforms (Instagram & TikTok), including short-form and long-form videos.
• Photo and video shoots: Pitch, conceptualise, mood board, art direct and/or style photo and video shoots, such as product, jewellery, lifestyle and interior shoots, to a high level of quality; along with input from fashion, W&J, lifestyle and digital teams. To oversee these shoots along with photographers and videographers, and be responsible for the output and execution on the shoot day.
• Project management: Work with editorial team and team leads to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Trend Awareness: Stay on top of emerging fashion trends, design techniques, and social media aesthetics to continuously elevate the visual style of the title.
• Photo editing: Source for photos and illustrations that help communicate a page / project's visual message more effectively, and be responsible for managing the administrative processes for rights and invoicing.
• Collaborative Leadership: Lead and mentor the Associate Art Director and collaborate closely with the editorial team to bring creative concepts to life.
• Administrative Responsibilities: Work with team leads from the commercial, print, and digital departments, as well as with members of other departments, to create and update marketing collaterals, pitch and brand decks, and other multi-media assets. Work closely with the Associate Art Director on the magazine's design and timely delivery of digital and video assets. Work seamlessly with the production and
pre-press teams for the smooth delivery of the print product. Maintain proper administrative controls to ensure all deadlines/release dates are met.
Who we are looking for
• Experience: 5+ years of experience in graphic design, with at least 2 years in an art director role at a fashion, lifestyle, or luxury brand. Experience in both print and digital content is a must. Experience in video production (filming, editing) is a plus
• Skills: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects), knowledge of web design, knowledge of social media content creation tools like Canva, Lightroom, or other editing software
• Portfolio: A strong portfolio showcasing print, digital and social media design projects, especially within the fashion or lifestyle sectors.
• Creativity: A strong visual aesthetic and innovative approach to design, with the ability to think strategically about audience engagement.
• Attention to detail: Exceptional eye for detail and high-quality design, ensuring that every aspect of the magazine and social media content is polished and professional.
• Communication: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to work effectively with cross-functional teams and present ideas clearly to stakeholders.
