Overview:
Under the guidance of the Head of Department for Counselling & Social Services, the Mental Health Counsellor will provide direct psychosocial support to clients, including therapeutic interventions and counselling services. This role involves conducting psychosocial assessments, offering appropriate interventions, managing risk in high-stress situations (e.g., suicide or self-harm), and stabilising emotional crises. The position also includes responsibilities in training, programme development, stakeholder engagement, mental health advocacy and other administrative tasks as required.

Under the guidance of the Head of Department for Counselling & Social Services, the Mental Health Counsellor will provide direct psychosocial support to clients, including therapeutic interventions and counselling services. This role involves conducting psychosocial assessments, offering appropriate interventions, managing risk in high-stress situations (e.g., suicide or self-harm), and stabilising emotional crises. The position also includes responsibilities in training, programme development, stakeholder engagement, mental health advocacy and other administrative tasks as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual counselling, crisis intervention, and psychosocial support for migrant workers.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions, debriefs, and mental health workshops.
- Conduct risk assessments and manage high-stress situations (e.g., suicide, self-harm).
- Design and deliver training for staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.
- Conduct in-person and virtual sessions, including travel to dormitories and partner sites across the island
- Support casework by working closely with the social services team to ensure holistic care and appropriate referrals.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners for holistic care delivery.
- Maintain accurate case documentation and support impact evaluation and reporting needs.
Technical Competencies:
- Strong ability to provide professional counselling services in diverse settings.
- Experience in programme planning, execution, and impact evaluation.
- Additional certifications or training in psychological rehabilitation or trauma-informed care
- are advantageous.
- Counsellors to counsel mainly Indian and Bengali-speaking migrant brothers. Knowledge of Tamil and/or Bengali is essential.
- Bilingual counselling capability (especially in Bengali or Tamil) is strongly preferred.
Eligibility Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Counselling from a Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC)-recognised institution.
- Candidates with a Postgraduate Diploma in counselling and relevant certifications will also be considered.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant professional experience in any sector preferred; fresh graduates with meaningful internship experience are welcome to apply.
- Strong interpersonal skills; works well with individuals from diverse backgrounds including staff, volunteers, and migrant communities.
- Self-driven, adaptable, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.
