The opportunity

Based in Singapore, you will be an integral part of the Private Capital team with a focus on supporting direct investments & opportunities across Asia Pacific, particularly in Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. As a member of this team, you will be working with investment professionals with deep sector and regional expertise. You play a key role in supporting senior investment professionals in analyzing potential investment opportunities and executing transactions as well as monitoring the performance of existing investments and working with portfolio company management teams to execute central initiative.

Who you'll work with

In your new role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a team of professionals including other members of Ontario Teachers' in Singapore, India, Toronto, London and outside professionals such as management teams of our assets, investment bankers, consultants, board directors and lawyers.

What you'll do
  • Work in a team, supporting the diligence process to determine whether the company represents an attractive investment opportunity. Among other things, the analysis of investments includes conducting industry and company research, working with third-party advisors, crafting sophisticated financial models, arranging debt financing, reviewing and analyzing due diligence materials, and preparing internal support materials and written recommendations to Private Capital's Investment Committee.
  • Once a transaction has been completed, you will remain involved with the business by monitoring its performance, preparing internal reports, review valuations and helping develop and implement various value-enhancing initiatives by working closely with company management and board of directors, as appropriate. You will work directly with management on various initiatives as required, including mergers and acquisitions, debt refinancing, budgeting and other strategic projects. In addition, you will evaluate potential exit alternatives.
  • You will also play an active role in evaluating target investment sectors and developing investment theses in specific sectors across our core regions. Activities will include conducting desk research, working with bankers, consultants and operating executives, and attending conferences. The Associate will be expected to occasionally travel to support these activities.
  • You will partner with the broader Equities' team on certain transactions and initiatives and support the continued growth of OTPP's business in Asia on strategic projects and talent development.
  • Expected to assist other investment teams, e.g., public markets, infrastructure, etc. as needed.

What you'll need
  • Must have 3 to 5 years of work experience in Pension Plan and Private Equity team.
  • Minimum bachelor's degree from a top tier university in Finance, Business, and / or Accounting.
  • Strong accounting, valuation, research and financial modeling skills. Excellent analytical and quantitative skills as well as the ability to perform in-depth, critical analysis and synthesize data to derive insights. The ability to think critically, problem solve and demonstrate sound judgement is essential A proven understanding of fundamental investment analysis with the ability to quickly develop an understanding of economic/business characteristics, conditions and trends of a wide range of industries and of their investment characteristics.
  • Proven experience working on private equity deals in Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand and India
  • Sound knowledge of Asset Management and working with portfolio company management teams
  • Ability to support value creation initiatives within portfolio companies
  • Proficiency in English, both oral and written
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, with proven ability to articulate sophisticated ideas, issues and recommendations effectively
  • Strong team player with a high degree of maturity and initiative, with the ability to work effectively whilst balancing multiple priorities within a small entrepreneurial team
  • Possesses unquestioned personal and professional integrity
  • Ability and willingness to travel; desire to work across the Asia-Pacific region
