Role Purpose

This role focuses on efficiently handling a variety of P&I and FD&D claims, including complex cases, while maintaining control over strategies and providing regular updates. You'll build strong relationships with Members and brokers, mentor colleagues, and collaborate with various teams to identify risks and improve processes. Your efforts will ensure Members feel supported and informed throughout the claims process, contributing to a high-performing, inclusive team environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle a high volume and variety of P&I and FD&D claims, including complex and high-value matters, ensuring efficient and cost-effective resolution.

• Maintain control of P&I and FD&D claims strategy, taking input from external advisors without ceding control.

• Appoint lawyers, surveyors, consultants and correspondents and to receive and critically evaluate advice received.

• Ensure that Members are kept adequately informed at all stages of a claim and understand both their and the Club's position in any given situation.

• Provide regular, accurate, and timely reporting on new and ongoing P&I and FD&D claims to the North Asia P&I claims lead, the Head of P&I Claims and the Head of FD&D Claims as applicable.

• Manage relationships with Members and brokers, ensuring high levels of service.

• Mentor, supervise, and manage colleagues within the P&I Claims function.

• Collaborate closely with Underwriting and Loss Prevention colleagues to identify risk trends and manage relationships.

• Prepare agendas, reports, and inform the Sector of significant developments as required.

• Support business development activities and network with Members and customers, both locally and overseas.

• Assist with audits and improve claims handling and operational processes.

• Ensure all duties, including file organisation, internal reporting, adherence to Claims Function procedures, and participation in out-of-hours emergency response, are performed in accordance with established procedures.

Your key accountabilities will include such other duties and tasks are as allocated to you at the discretion of management and that are within your capabilities and within the scope of your post.

About you

Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience

• Degree (preferably in Law) OR equivalent (e.g. Master Mariners Certificate) OR experience gained handling claims in a P&I club, law firm or shipping company.
• Strong understanding of P&I claims and the P&I insurance industry
• Strong understanding of P&I Rules and integrated Claims Department Procedures
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships
• Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage demanding workloads

Desirable

• Willingness to undertake IG PANDIQ exams or read IG PANDIQ material where the material is relevant to the role
• IT proficiency
• Ability to assist with cases in a controlled, efficient and cost-effective manner
