Job Description
A School Nurse is a professional who is there to make sure that every student has access to mental and physical health services throughout the day. They work with teachers and parents or guardians of the students to discuss care plans with them when needed, including medication management if necessary.
Roles and Responsibilities
Provide health services to students and staff when they are at school.
Provide basic healthcare to students and staff in case of injury or illness. Evaluate illness or injury, treat the patient if possible and determine if it is necessary to call the patient's guardian to take them home or seek further medical assistance.
Develop health care plans for students with chronic illnesses(e.g. diabetes) and allergies.
Prevention of communicable diseases (e.g. Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease checks).
Support for medication dispensing for chronic illnesses and dispensing prescriptive medications to students as per doctor's instructions.
Keep students' medicines in a safe place and contact parents when medication is near expiry
Update students' medical history.
Notify parents/guardians/ teachers/ respective schools of students who are ill or injured and refer them to a doctor or hospital if required.
Assist parents/guardians with insurance claims if medical costs fall under the school insurance policy.
Checking first aid kits and replenishing them when required
Routine checks of AED equipment
School nurse skills and requirements
State registered nurse
At least 2 years of nursing experience.
CPR and First Aid Certification.
Able to work independently
Good communication skills
