With recent Government announcements on the development of World Class facilities, increased international events at Kallang, enhanced high performance support and with SEA Games being hosted by Singapore in 2029, it is an exciting time to be in Sport in Singapore. Over the past few years, Singapore Gymnastics has hosted the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships and will be hosting the 2025 Senior Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships. This past year, we achieved our first podium placings at the Junior Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships. In addition, Singapore Gymnastics will be producing a new business plan for FY2026. Singapore Gymnastics is offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join the team in a key leadership role of Performance Director, focused on improving international performances of Singapore Gymnasts on the international stage. It is important that Singapore Gymnastics has a strong shop window to inspire and encourage more young people to take part in gymnastics, to unite the nation and inspire the Singapore Spirit.

About the Role

The Dance and Artistry Coach (DAC) plays a crucial role within the Performance Development operations of Singapore Gymnastics. This role focuses on developing artistry and ballet (mainly classical ballet for RG and general/fundamental ballet for AG) in gymnasts across all disciplines but particularly Women's Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics, with a special emphasis on performance development. The successful candidate will work closely with the Interim Technical Director and once appointed, the Performance Director, as well as the National Training Centre (NTC) Coaches.

The successful candidate will:

1. Performance Development

• Implement the Singapore Gymnastics Performance Development Plan, part of the FY2026-2029 business plan, in collaboration with the Performance Director.

• Assist the Performance Development Team in delivering an excellent artistry and ballet training programme across all disciplines at the NTCs.

2. Artistry and Ballet Development

Develop key areas of artistry, including:

o Technical ability (virtuosity) - High-level skill and technique in movement.

o Musicality - Connecting with, interpreting, and adding dynamics to music through movement.

o Acting ability - Displaying emotion, character, or intent through movement.

o Performance - Engaging with movement, emotion, and expression.

o Movement quality - Creating smooth transitions, control, and sharp movements.

o Creativity - Translating prescribed choreography into a personalized expression.

o Develop a comprehensive classical ballet program, ensuring regular updates and adjustments to keep it aligned with evolving techniques and performance standards.

o Create a targeted training program focused on the development of balances, rotations, and jumps/leaps, tailored to the specific needs of each discipline. This program should be dynamic, allowing for adjustments based on individual progress and requirements across all three disciplines.

3. Curriculum and Training Delivery

• Cultivate artistry, dance, and ballet in athletes of all levels, ensuring a well-planned and excellently delivered curriculum.

• Emphasize a process-focused approach to performance development, aligning with long-term goals and systematic improvements.

4. Collaborative Environment

• Collaborate closely with internal teams, including Performance Development Staff, Coaches, and Athletes.

• Build relationships with external partners, such as the High Performance Sports Institute (HPSI), affiliated clubs, and coaches.

5. Choreography

• The Dance and Artistry Coach will play a key role in choreographing new routines for both WAG (primarily floor) and RG (freehand, hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon), ensuring that all choreography aligns with the latest FIG Code of Points (2025-2028). The specific choreography requirements will be discussed and agreed in collaboration with the respective coaches.

About You

The ideal candidate will have the following characteristics and qualifications:

Self-motivated with a passion for competitive sport and a commitment to continuous improvement and excellence.

Flexible and adaptable, with a "can-do" attitude.

• Collaborative, open to new ideas, and capable of engaging with a team.

• Responsible, accountable and an effective communicator in spoken and written English.

Educated to degree level with a strong grounding in classical ballet techniques (preferably Vaganova or Cecchetti) and contemporary (e.g., Graham, Horton, Limon) and other different dance styles.

• Experience working with performance sports, such as Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG), Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG), Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG), Acrobatic Gymnastics, or synchronized swimming would be an advantage.

• Ability to combine theatrical delivery with sound pedagogical methodology and experience in developing a dance and artistry curriculum.

Key Outcomes

1. Developing and Implementing Artistry Curriculum

• Designing a comprehensive curriculum for artistry training at the NTCs that enhances coach knowledge and integrates injury prevention through dance-based physical preparation.

• Contributing to the Coach Education framework and SGDP pathway network.

2. Programme Delivery

• Delivering the artistry training programme across three different venues for all gymnastic disciplines.

3. Choreography

• Providing choreography expertise, for Women's Artistic Gymnastics (especially floor routines) and Rhythmic Gymnastics (freehand, hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon).
