Join Our Team at Centre for Disruptive Photonic Technologies, School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

A Research Associate position is currently available at the Centre for Disruptive Photonic Technologies (CDPT), School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences, at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.

The Research Associate (RA) will be required to contribute to a project focused on the development of integrated superconducting nanowire single photon detectors (SNSPDs). The RA is expected to undertake experimental, design and numerical efforts exploring various strategies to improve detection efficiency of the SNSPDs, and optimize their integration and packaging.

The RA will have the opportunity to work on the entire process of design fabrication and characterisation of the integrated detectors. The RA is expected to work, generate ideas and experimentally prove them both independently and within team-working efforts with other researchers working on the project.

Key Responsibilities:

As an integral part of the project, the Research Associate is expected to design and simulate the performance of integrated SNSPDs, develop a fabrication workflow for integration of SNSPDs in waveguides, characterize and optimize the device performance, design photon number resolution schemes for integrated SNSPDs and develop cryogenic-compatible chip packaging. The work will involve experimental work

The Research Associate is expected to work, generate ideas and experimentally prove them both independently and within team-working efforts with other researchers working on the project.

Job Requirements:
  • Must have a Master Degree in Physics, Optical/Photonic Engineering, Electronics, or closely-related disciplines
  • Should have 3 or more years of relevant research experience in the areas of single photon detection, photonic waveguides (design, simulation and fabrication), nanofabrication (device fabrication), superconductivity and cryogenic measurement methods (packaging and measurement);
  • Applicants should show a solid knowledge and in depth understanding of superconducting nanowire single photon detectors, optics/nano-optics and nanophotonics, optical waveguiding etc;
  • Should have experience with with characterization of single photon detectors and of superconductors with liquid helium temperature cryostats;
  • Should have experience with spectroscopic characterization setups and systems and experimental data analysis: experience with nanoscopic fabrication, building optical and electronic characterization setups, knowledge of the use of tools and methods such as e.g. FIB/EBL, optical lithography is required;
  • Should have experience with analytical and numerical tools and methods, such as full wave electromagnetic wave propagation simulations, for the description of optics phenomena at the nanoscale;
  • Should show ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong initiative
  • Should show good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Work in cleanrooms, growth laboratories and laser laboratories
  • Use simulation software for modelling of the experiments
  • Attend safety and all other necessary trainings, as per NTU policy
  • Travel nationally and internationally

NTU seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit on the basis of merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability.

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
