We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Research Assistant to join the cancer biology lab headed by Assistant Professor Hongbin Yang. The successful candidate will focus on elucidating how regulators of protein phosphatases shape cancer cells' sensitivity to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The work will also involve active participation in a CRISPR screen aiming to identify genetic dependence and weakness of cancers with a particular genotype.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Candidates will be expected to manage their own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small-scale project management and coordinating multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines;
  • With the guidance from senior lab members, adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental procedures to actively facilitate the research of students, research associates, and postdocs (e.g.: plasmid extraction and documentation, gene editing (CRISPR/Cas9), plasmid construction, and stable cell line generation, etc);
  • Purchase, receive, organize, and document reagents, consumables, labware, and equipment for the lab;
  • Update lab expenses to the line manager on a monthly and annual basis;
  • Organize and document experimental protocols and draft/ amend administrative paperwork such as standard operating procedure (SOPs) and risk assessment with the help from the line manager and senior lab members;
  • Take the responsibility as the lab's safety representative in participating the school's safety meeting, preparing the lab for safety audits, and training new lab members on safety knowledge;
  • Act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group on scientific protocols and experimental techniques.


Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, medicine, or related disciplines
  • Demonstrable interest or experience in cancer biology
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Adept in mammalian cell culture and aseptic techniques;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment;
