The Future Ready Food Safety Hub (FRESH) serves as Singapore's lead scientific platform under the Singapore Food Story R&D Programme, to bring together researchers, regulators and industry to build up Singapore's food safety science and R&D capabilities to secure Singapore's food supply and economic value proposition. FRESH will embark on R&D and talent development activities to help enhance Singapore's local food regulatory capabilities and allow "first-in-market" food products to be safely launched in Singapore, as well as help promote Singapore-developed food standards internationally. FRESH is part of the Singapore Food Story R&D Programme (SFS), with partner organisations being the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), A*STAR and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

The Senior Research Fellow, Food Toxicology, will support FRESH research into food safety science and innovations in toxicology (focusing on novel foods). The position is suited to someone looking for innovative research activity who is experienced in food microbiology, toxicology, -omics analytical platform, and risk assessment. The role will be working closely with the FRESH Director to develop toxicology oriented food safety risk assessment and comparative studies related to food digestion.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Devising and testing hypotheses
  • Using appropriate analytical technology platforms to investigate potential toxicity of food ingredients
  • Analysing and interpreting data
  • Writing reports, reviews and papers
  • Performing risk assessments to determine the likelihood of harmful effects
  • Collaborating and sharing expertise and research findings with scientific and technical staff
  • Monitor research progress
  • Manage lab environment including tracking purchases
  • Communicate research activities within the FRESH, FST and NTU food community
  • Take charge of development on shared lab SOPs and workflows


Job Requirements:
  • PhD in a relevant discipline such as microbiology, chemistry, food science and technology.
  • Understanding of next-generation risk assessment would be an advantage.
  • Direct experience working in a food lab
  • Strong background in food related research
  • Comfortable with a role that crosses academic, industry and regulatory thinking
