Full Professor (Tenured) in Soft and Biological Matter
The School of Materials Science and Engineering in the College of Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, invites applications for a senior-level faculty position in Soft and Biological Matter. We are seeking an outstanding individual with a distinguished record of research, a passion for teaching, and a commitment to academic leadership. The appointment will be tenured, at the rank of full professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
This position is created in association with the newly founded Research Centre of Excellence, Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science (IDMxS), which seeks to develop new digital paradigms for sensing, and diagnosing at the level of single molecules. It thus seeks to link the molecular world of biological sciences with the world of information technology and data science. The successful candidate will bring scientific vision and leadership in organizing, consolidating, and developing materials science for digital molecular analytics at IDMxS.

Responsibilities:
Research Excellence:
- Lead research in the field of soft matter, with a focus on areas including self-assembly and self-organization, surface and interface chemistry, molecular recognition and chemical binding, phase transitions and phase separation, membranes and proteins, colloids and nanoparticles, all in the analytical contexts of molecular detection.
- Apply expertise in membrane biophysics, membrane-based biosensors, vesicles, and synthetic cells, as well as optical and fluorescence methods.
- Synthesize scientific information across multiple related disciplines of (1) detection chemistry highlighted above, (2) transduction approaches, and (3) data analytics.
- Publish high-impact research papers in peer-reviewed journals and actively contribute to the advancement of knowledge across these fields.
- Secure external research funding and develop a vibrant research programme.
- Lead and guide scientific activities within the Detection Cluster within IDMxS.
Teaching and Mentoring:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in soft and biological matter, digital molecular sciences, and biomolecular materials.
- Supervise and mentor graduate students and postdoctoral research fellows, fostering and leading a collaborative and supportive research community.
- Contribute to the graduate and post-doctoral recruitment and retention efforts for IDMxS.
- Contribute to curriculum development for digital molecular sciences.
Service and Leadership:
- Provide scientific leadership for the detection cluster within the IDMxS and develop partnerships with other clusters on transduction, analytics, and translation.
- Foster partnerships with other relevant research centres of excellence, including SCELSE and I-FIM.
- Serve in the executive leadership team of IDMxS.
- Participate in departmental, university, and professional service activities.
- Contribute to the academic community through participation in conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Materials Science or a related field.
- Currently appointed as a tenured, full professor at a leading international university.
- A distinguished record of scholarly achievements in soft and biological matter, demonstrated through high-impact publications, conference presentations, and external funding.
- Leadership in the professional community as demonstrated by conference organization, invited seminars, and professional service.
- Evidence of excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Strong commitment to academic service and leadership.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
