About School of Social Sciences (SSS)

SSS has nearly 100 faculty members and more than 1,700 undergraduates who major in the four degree programmes the School offers: Economics, Psychology, Public Policy and Global Affairs, and Sociology. Students also have the opportunities of choosing double majors such as Economics and Psychology, Economics and Public Policy & Global Affairs, and Economics and Engineering, etc. There are more than 180 graduate students in our PhD and MA programmes (by research), and MSc programmes in Applied Economics and Gerontology. The School's holistic and rigorous education aims to prepare our students with analytical and critical capacities that can be applied in the classroom and future careers. Students will be able to further expand their learning horizons through overseas exchanges and internship experiences in Singapore.

Apart from being deeply engaged in their disciplinary pursuits, our faculty members are also at the forefront of cutting-edge research between the social sciences and other disciplines. The School has identified Global Asia, Environment and Sustainability, Science and Society as the strategic areas of interdisciplinary research and international collaborations.

Job Description

This position plays an important role in supporting the smooth running of the Graduate programmes and CET courses. The incumbent has to provide good administrative and logistical support to a variety of important tasks, in areas ranging from programme publicity, outreach & marketing, student admission, academic, financial and graduation matters. The incumbent will also support Post Graduate Coursework and CET efforts in the School as and when assigned.

Graduate Education

Graduate Assistantship Programme (GAP)
  • Support for GAP for students under Scholarship
  • Track GAP hours for students under Research Scholarship and teaching hours for students under School-funded Teaching Assistant (TA)-ship
  • Compile list of students for allocation of teaching (TA) duties.


Non-graduating research students
  • Process applications from non-graduating visiting students who applied for visiting research attachment with the School
  • Apply student pass and prepare enrolment letter for students
  • Track research fees and miscellaneous fee payments from students. Administer research fee revenue from students
  • Update website and collaterals on outreach for admission of visiting students
  • Prepare certification letter for students upon completion of attachment
  • Track students on submission of progress reports


Outreach for graduate programmes
  • Support student orientation events (2 intakes) by sending email invites, preparing EDM and catering logistics such as refreshments and booking of venue.
  • Support graduate roadshow such as PG headhunt fair and virtual fair held annually
  • Support 3MT thesis Heats for PhD students- by sending email invites, preparing eDM and broadcast via website.


Student Assistance and Part-time Employment
  • Process payment via part-time student assistance (PTSA) system for students doing student assistance work (after fulfilling GAP hours)
  • Process part-time employment requests from students applying for research assistance work under research grants


Continuing Education Training (CET)
  • Coordinate with faculty on availability and assist in scheduling of FlexiMasters courses
  • Assist in preparation of appointment letters for faculty/Contract for Service Agreement for external instructors
  • Facilitate in payments to instructors
  • Assist in mailbox access for external instructors (raising new requests and renewal)
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on end-to-end course creation and administration matters, ensuring that the course details are accurately updated on the website.
  • Support the logistic arrangement pertaining to course delivery
  • Assist in collation of learner feedback
  • Assist in designing electronic direct mailer to promote CET courses
  • Update website for CET as and when needed


Requirements:
  • A recognized degree in any discipline
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in working at an Institute of Higher Learning would be an advantage
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Content management and creation for marketing (website, social media, Canva).
  • Meticulous, proactive and resourceful with a passion to achieve
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team to achieve goals
