The Centre for Antimicrobial Bioengineering at the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (SCBE), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) is seeking candidates to work as a Synthetic Drug Chemist (Research Fellow) to design and synthesize antibacterial drug molecules and their conjugates which will be used antimicrobial agents and sensing molecules.

Key Responsibilities:

The Research Fellow will also assist with the management of the Center, such as procurement, lab safety, proposal preparation, prepare technical reports for the program PIs, assist with organization and management of the research team, etc.

The Research Fellow will work under supervision to design and synthesize new antibacterial drugs.

This includes:

• Work with Post-doctoral fellows to achieve the project goals
• Develop and execute experiments aimed at the design and synthesis of small and oligomeric antibacterial drugs which may include heterocyclic compounds, azole compounds, etc
• Capacity to develop and interpret small molecule drug structure-activity relationship, antimicrobial activity
• Do the structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies of the drug activities and toxicity
• Prepare technical reports for the program PIs and present data at regular group meetings
• Draft research publications/proposals

Job Requirements:

• PhD in degree in organic chemistry, chemistry, materials science or related fields
• Expertise in multi-step organic synthetic chemistry and knowledge in carbene chemistry will be advantages
• Expertise in developing and interpreting experiments SAR for drug design will be advantageous
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, as well as organizational
