School of Social Sciences is looking for a candidate to join them as a Research Fellow.

Job Responsibilities
  • Design data-driven models of multilingualism, including robust hypothesis tests regarding early language factors'
  • Manage a Corpus of speech data collected from child-caregiver interactions
  • Plan data collection and analysis to meet the targets of the grant
  • Oversee transcription and translation work and manage junior researchers and student assistants
  • Manage day-to-day operations of research projects
  • Manage project meetings, facilitate communication among project personnel
  • Oversee purchase and installation of audio/visual/computing and technical equipment
  • Develop and maintain project operational procedures, training materials, and documents
  • Recruit subjects on campus and off campus, running experimental procedures
  • Coordinate data collection, including and working with young children and families
  • Learning and performing experimental data pre-processing and analysis
  • Manage and maintain project records
  • Assist in the preparation and writing of progress reports, scientific presentations, abstracts, manuscripts, and publications, including outputs aimed at the general public
  • Create visual materials for experimental work and for public communications
  • Perform other ad hoc administrative duties to support the research projects
  • Event planning (from time to time)


Job Requirements
  • PhD in Psychology, Linguistics, or related discipline
  • Ability to communicate in another language of either Chinese Mandarin, Tamil or Malay is preferred as the project involves bilingualism research in Singapore
  • Experience in cognitive or psycholinguistics research and/or experience in linguistics and language acquisition in Singapore or overseas
  • Work with infants/young children/families in the community would be an advantage
  • Competence in Python/SPSS/R/Excel, knowledge of Eprime/Presentation/Habit X and Matlab would be an advantage
  • Experience with mics, amps, speakers, audio processing software is an advantage
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to details and accuracy
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work with young children and families as required by the research project
  • High degree of responsibility and maturity
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Agile and able to manage fluid situations
