A Research Associate position is available in the Maritime Energy and Sustainable Development (MESD) Centre of Excellence, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Project Information:

Methanol has been identified to be a potential candidate of next-generation alternative fuel for ocean-going vessels, harbour craft, and inland water vessels. Recently, there are increasing numbers of methanol-fueled vessels being commercially operated, serving scheduled routes or delivering methanol as both cargo and fuel.

Singapore Maritime Energy and Sustainable Development (MESD) Centre of Excellence in NTU and China Waterborne Transport Research Institute (WTI) propose to conduct a joint study of the technical and operational feasibility of methanol fueled vessels in China and Singapore. The study will focus on the methanol availability, bunkering, engine technology and economics.

Job Description:

The successful candidate is expected to work on the field of bunkering operations, lifecycle analysis, engine technology, safety and risk analysis, economics study or any similar fields. The candidate will conduct literature review, report writing, data analysis skills as well as liaising with industrial partners. The candidate is expected to be self-motivated and capable of multi-tasking.

Job Requirements:

• Candidate should possess at least a Master's degree (Chemical, Environmental, Energy, Mechanical, Maritime or equivalent)
• Knowledge in maritime and port operation, economics, and combustion engines is an advantage
• Ability to conceptualize and pattern collected information, and to perform further analysis to align with project outcome
• Knowledge of scientific or engineering software
• An effective team player with good communication & interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently
• Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
