Nanyang Technological University (Nanyang Business School) is hiring a Research Fellow for an ongoing project on multi-channel retail supply chains. The position is based in the IT&OM Division at the Nanyang Business School. The divisional faculty conduct research on strategies and analytical models that aim to improve the operational efficiency, profitability, and social responsibility of operations. There is considerable scope for the right candidate to get excellent post-doctoral training in operations management/research. Salary will commensurate with experience.

Job Responsibilities

• Responsible for the overall computational effort in the project using operations research methodology
• Test nonlinear transhipment costs and the impact of positive setup costs in the cost function of the model objective. This will require changes in the stochastic dynamic programming equations used to define the optimal policy and the related heuristic policies
• For experimental analysis, seasonality in job arrival pattern must be modelled by changing the arrival probabilities of the jobs in a rhythmic cycle. This will necessitate repeating the experiments with new and varied data
• Responsible for reviewing the above changes in the model formulation, devising suitable algorithms for model implementation and computing solutions for both optimal and heuristic solutions
• Iteratively improve the solutions and calibrate their quality to provable bounds

Job Requirements

• Possess a Phd from a well-known university/program in operations management, operations research, mathematics, data analysis or other allied disciplines
• Experienced in essential operations research methodologies such as optimization methods, stochastic processes, dynamic programming, inventory theory, queuing theory, game theory, econometric analysis, simulation and so on
• Possess deep competence in a subset of these methodologies, by virtue of having been trained in them and utilized these in their doctoral research work
