The Dementia Research Centre (Singapore) is a multidisciplinary institute that aims to carry out cutting-edge high impact clinical neuroscience, cognitive and neuroimaging research in characterizing the underpinnings of dementia in Singapore. The Research Associate with assist with relevant strategic research objectives and contribute to the overall academic culture of the Dementia Research Centre (Singapore), especially through its Science of Learning Initiative. They will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team that includes team members from across the clinical neuroscience, neurology, neuroimaging, and analytics fields. The Research Associate will support multi-faceted dementia-based research programs, through conducting impactful research with the primary focus on the diagnosis and management of mild cognitive impairment and dementia.

The Research Associate will provide research support within a neuroimaging - based setting. As part of their contribution, the Research Associate will be required to conduct basic literature reviews as well as statistical data analyses to assess multimodal relationships (i.e neurocognitive data, neuroimaging, biomarker expression). They will be required to have strong verbal and written communication skills in English as well as be able to execute projects under supervision. They will also be required to assist with the preparation of research analyses, plans, reports, manuscripts and presentations, as well as coordinate clinical recruitment, and perform administrative duties, where applicable.

The Research Associate will effectively contribute towards multi-faceted projects, run under a multi-institutional dementia program at the new Dementia Research Centre, in the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine at the Nanyang Technological University as part of its new Science of Learning initiative. They will be part of the dynamic neuroscience research environment of Singapore.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide research support within the neuroimaging team setting.
  • Conduct literature review and study-related statistical analysis where applicable.
  • Assist with the preparation of research analyses, plans, reports, manuscripts and presentations, where applicable.
  • Coordinate subjects recruitment and participate in data collection across our 2 neuroimaging sites.
  • Perform research administrative duties.
  • Contribute to key decisions regarding their research project, which involves and is not limited to; research proposals, design, data cleaning and management, research methodologies and analyses.
  • Contribute to key recruitment and administrative decisions.
  • Report directly to the lead neuroimaging Research Fellow as well as Director of the Dementia Research Centre (Singapore) A/Prof. Nagaendran Kandiah.


Requirements & Competencies:
  • Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering (or other Engineering disciplines), Psychology, Neuroscience*, and its equivalent.
  • Experience in data analyses and implementing statistical analysis using statistical software such as Python or R.
  • Keen interest in clinical research and hypothesis testing.
  • Experience with coding such as with Python, R, MATLAB or bash.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Prioritization and time management skills.
  • Evidence of publication and other research output would be highly advantageous.
  • Organization and execution of the processing of imaging data (data involving human brain structural and functional scans) using open-source imaging algorithms, would be highly advantageous.
