Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Public Relations and Communications staff to ensure effective execution of communication strategies
- Oversee workload planning, content approval processes, and quality control of all public communications
- Drive capability development within the PR team and ensure alignment with Town Council objectives
Strategic Communications & Press Management
- Develop and implement comprehensive communications and media strategies to enhance the Town Council's public image and stakeholder engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media relations, including handling press queries, drafting press releases, and coordinating interviews
- Advise Members of Parliament (MPs), Town Councillors, and senior management on media positioning, key messaging, and public sentiment
- Manage sensitive press matters and provide strategic guidance during issues that may impact public perception
Crisis & Issues Management
- Lead crisis communication efforts during estate-related incidents (e.g., service disruptions, maintenance issues, public complaints)
- Prepare holding statements, FAQs, media responses, and communication toolkits for operational contingencies
- Monitor traditional and digital media to proactively manage emerging issues
Events, Publications & Community Engagement
- Plan, oversee, and execute large-scale community events, town hall sessions, estate launches, and engagement campaigns
- Lead the production and publication of newsletters, annual reports, community bulletins, and other official Town Council publications
- Ensure consistent branding and messaging across print, digital, and on-ground communication materials
- Work closely with grassroots organisations and stakeholders to enhance resident engagement and participation
Digital & Content Strategy
- Oversee the Town Council's website, social media platforms, and digital campaigns
- Approve and curate content including speeches, articles, videos, and marketing collateral
- Track media coverage and engagement metrics, providing regular reports to senior management
Requirements
- Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related discipline
- At least 4-5 years of relevant experience at managerial level, in public relations, corporate communications, or public sector communications
- Proven experience managing and leading a PR/Communications team
- Strong track record in handling press matters, media engagement, and crisis communications
- Demonstrated experience organising large-scale public events and managing official publications
- Experience working within Town Councils, government agencies, or public sector environments will be highly advantageous
- Excellent writing, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
- Able to manage sensitive issues with discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment
