Job Purpose

The Senior Art Teacher will be responsible for establishing, developing, and leading the institution's art education programmes for children and teenagers, covering both artistic foundation (art appreciation and creative expression) and professional-level art training.

The role also involves promoting and localising the "Zai Zai Art" (自在画) approach in Singapore, ensuring it aligns with local educational standards, cultural context, and market needs.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Development & Academic Leadership

• Design and independently establish art foundation and professional art courses for children and adolescents.
• Develop structured curricula, lesson plans, learning outcomes, and assessment frameworks.
• Ensure all programmes meet high academic and pedagogical standards appropriate for different age groups.

Teaching & Instruction

• Deliver high-quality art classes and workshops across various age levels.
• Guide students in developing creativity, technical skills, visual literacy, and artistic confidence.
• Mentor students preparing for advanced art pathways, portfolios, or competitions where applicable.

Promotion & Local Development of "Zai Zai Art" (自在画)

• Lead the introduction, promotion, and localisation of the "Zai Zai Art" philosophy and methodology in Singapore.
• Adapt teaching approaches to suit local students, parents, and educational expectations.
• Participate in exhibitions, open classes, public workshops, and outreach activities to raise programme visibility.

Academic & Team Leadership

• Provide academic guidance, mentoring, and professional development support to junior art teachers.
• Contribute to teacher training, teaching quality assurance, and academic reviews.
• Support management in maintaining consistent teaching standards across all art programmes.

Institutional & Strategic Support

• Collaborate with management on programme planning, branding, and long-term academic strategy.
• Support student recruitment through academic consultations, trial classes, and parent engagement when required.
• Represent the institution in professional or public art-related activities as appropriate.

Requirements

Education & Professional Background

• Formal academic background in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Art Education, or related disciplines.
• Proven experience as a practising artist, with personal art exhibition(s) held independently or in collaboration.

Experience

• Extensive experience in art education, curriculum development, and academic leadership.
• Previous role as Director, Academic Director, Centre Director, or equivalent senior management position in an education or training institution.
• Strong understanding of both artistic practice and educational operations.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong curriculum design and programme development capabilities.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with children, teenagers, parents, and educators.
• Leadership, mentoring, and team development skills.
• Ability to balance artistic integrity, educational outcomes, and organisational objectives.
