- Establish the Japanese mother tongue programme at Invictus Dempsey Hill (IDH) as a high-quality and rigorous academic programme.
- Plan, prepare, deliver and document lessons as per the Japanese curriculum, for every year level taught from 1 through 6, to mother tongue Japanese speaking students that support their continuing development as native speakers, with the goal of keeping them as near to grade-level expectations within the Japanese education system.
- Assess student learning progress as per Japanese curriculum standards and provide relevant and timely feedback, in both written and verbal forms, to students and parents that support their further learning.
- Resource materials, texts and assessment materials as required to deliver the Japanese mother tongue programme.
- Uphold the position as key Japanese-speaking faculty member, liaising with the parent and wider community as needed.
- Maintain up-to-date subject knowledge.
- Collaborate across subjects and cross curriculum links, in so far as it serves the ends of the Japanese mother tongue programme.
- Promote high standards in all aspects of school life, particularly in student progress.
- Contribute to a school culture which is positive, purposeful and professional.
- Comply with the professional duties of the Invictus Staff Handbook and all policies and procedures.
- Engage positively in school Professional Learning and Development (PLD) provision, appraisal processes and performance management arrangements.
- Take a fair and appropriate share of additional duties.
- Maintain a teaching load appropriate to the position, and as directed by appropriate line manager and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
- Support and attend school events, as requested. Learning, Teaching and Assessment
- Be an outstanding role model, setting high personal expectations of subject teaching, curriculum planning, professionalism, professional development and administration.
- Keep up to date with curriculum developments through reading and PLD opportunities, attending PLD organised by school and proactively looking to further develop as a teacher.
- Manage curriculum development and associated resources in a manner that challenges and interests students and is appropriate to their needs and skill-levels.
- Take responsibility for curriculum delivery and associated resources in a manner consistent with school and departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintain an ongoing assessment of and for learning related to MTPs and associated learning objectives.
- Prepare students for and administer summative assessment programmes as relevant and required.
- Maintain consistency with internal and relevant external marking schedules and moderation procedures.
- Maintain legible, verifiable, accurate, comprehensive, defendable and fair records of formative and summative assessment results.
- Write reports on student performance for internal and external use as required.
- Promote student independence, leadership and voice within the curriculum and school overall.
- Ensure that all internal examinations are set, conducted and marked in a manner consistent with external examination expectations.
Welfare and Discipline
- Write and maintain relevant records for individual student files and write reports.
- Communicate and consult with parents, as required.
- Participate in, and document, meetings for any of the purposes above.
- Support high standards of behaviour and uniform of students at school, in all activities and all external locations.
- Follow school policies regarding the health and safety of students both on and off the school premises when students are under the school's jurisdiction.
- Take a pastoral interest in students in curriculum and additional activities around the school environs so that they feel noticed, valued and cared for.
- Carry out supervision duties as required to ensure safety.
Communication
- Effectively align the subject to the school mission, vision and values.
- Promote an ethos of teaching in the subject matching Invictus International School expectations and aligned to the teaching standards document.
- Support staff cover when staff are absent, as per the cover roster.
- Collaborate with staff and contribute appropriately to all meetings effectively.
- Ensure effective communication/consultation with parents and carers including information about supporting their child at home.
- Liaise with examination boards, awarding bodies, and other relevant external bodies, as required and relevant.
- Communicate subject specific information (where appropriate) across the school e.g. calendared events.
Collegiality
- Attend meetings designed to share information necessary for the smooth running of the school and the successful delivery of its programmes.
- Supervise students during non-period time as determined by the duty rota.
- Behave always in a manner befitting a role model for students and in a manner that brings respect to colleagues and the reputation of Invictus International School.
Other Responsibilities
- Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by the Principal or members of the Senior Leadership Team deem necessary for the effective operation of the school.
