Job Description
The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Associate position in Prof Brian Kennedy's lab, part of the Department of Biochemistry and the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The lab focuses on basic, clinical and transformative research to add healthy years of life by developing interventions to delay ageing and chronic disease onset, increase healthspan and improve quality of life.
Appointments will be on a 1-year contract in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.
Purpose of the post
The Research Associate (RA) will be responsible to, and work closely with, Professor Brian Kennedy to provide support in research projects with a focus on repurposing drugs and natural products, as well as their combinations, to impact healthspan and lifespan in mice or other animal models. The lab employs a multi-pronged approach to discover such compounds, ranging from bioinformatic analyses of human data and mammalian cell culture to invertebrate studies and mouse models.

Main duties and responsibilities
The RA is expected to:
- Perform standard molecular biology techniques such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), molecular cloning, Western blotting, and mammalian cell culture;
- plan and carry out lifespan studies in invertebrates and mammals;
- design and conduct bioinformatics analyses of RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) datasets and cohort studies;
- assist in grant applications, research manuscript preparation, supervising and mentoring of students;
- collaborate with internal and external partners;
- conduct literature searches, and analyse data and maintain databases, as well as assist in preparing both progress and final reports of the project/s;
- assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the principal investigator.
Qualifications
A Master's degree in life sciences or related disciplines with experience or skills in one or more of the following are required
- Wet lab experience
- Systematic analyses of literature data
- Analysis of cohort studies
- Data visualisation, statistical analysis and computing
- Knowledge of various programming languages, such as R, Python, Perl, C/C++, SQL, or Java will be an asset
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
- Good communication skills
- Candidate should be independent, motivated and have an interest in scientific research
Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.
