Job Summary:

To assist in the day-to-day operation of the Political & Credit Risk underwriting team and support to the Underwriting Manager, Political & Credit Risk -Asia Pacific, with day-to-day activities as required. Contribute to aprofitable portfolio of business by developing an understanding of underwriting principles and disciplines through discussions and research. Assist in the growth objectives of the portfolio by identifying opportunities and performing delegated tasks. The candidate will be a key component of the team focusing on a broad range of Credit and Political Risks, predominantly for Financial Institution and ECA/Multi-Lateral business, and for select Corporate and Commodity Trading clients. The candidate will benefit from training, travel opportunities, and mentorship at both a branch and international level, effectively building relationships with key brokers and clients to maintain the flow of business and / or generate new business opportunities. The position reports into the Underwriting Manager, Political & Credit Risk - Asia Pacific.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage workflow for receipt and tracking of all submissions in line with HDI triage procedure and response back to brokers / cedants accordingly within an allocated timeframe.

Underwriting analysis for new and renewal business. Collating, analyzing, and presenting data for internal review, including:
  • Conduct initial review of new business submissions.
  • Identify referral triggers according to HDI Global Underwriting Guidelines and local branch underwriting authority.
  • Underwrite profitable accretive business within risk appetite. Analyse risk from political, structure and credit perspectives
  • Determine suitability of deals within limit and appetite parameters, in conjunction with credit risk analysts where applicable
  • Determine price and line size appropriate to the risk and the fit in the portfolio.
  • Negotiate with the broker/client to achieve the best outcome.
  • Develop an underwriting rationale with recommendation to the Underwriting Manager, Political & Credit Risk - Asia Pacific for new or strategic enquiries or initiatives.
  • Operate within the delegated underwriting license and underwriting guidelines.

Regular and ad-hoc engagement with other key functions of the business inc. Claims, Modelling, International Programmes,) Finance (Credit Control) and Operations.

Handling and developing current pre- and post-binding administrative functions including:
  • Account and portfolio performance reporting
  • Building familiarity and competence with internal underwriting and policy management systems (e.g., eNora, Doxis, Renew)
  • Maintaining accuracy of risk records and adherence to internal best practice
  • Endorsement review and action where applicable
  • Contributing to reporting within the CPRI Global Hub and with internal colleagues across Singapore, London, Stockholm, and Washington DC

To contribute to the positive promotion of the HDI Global SE Singapore brand, provide feedback for internal purposes as well as building relationship and networks in the local insurance market.
  • Visit Clients and Brokers to maintain and develop relationships.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key intermediaries and customers.
  • Attend customer and broker presentations as required by the Underwriting Manager, Political & Credit Risk - Asia Pacific.
  • Communicate market information with LOB managers.
  • Support and work on cross-office projects, team training and/or mentoring in conjunction with the global Head of Financial Risk based in London, as required.

Requirements:
  • Degree or Diploma in any discipline
  • Possess or are working towards an insurance qualification from ACII, AAII, ANZIIF or SCI
  • 3 or more years of relevant market experience in a (re)insurance underwriting function within specialty lines
  • Displays an interest in the Political & Credit Risk sector and a desire to develop their knowledge of the class of business
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and time management skills
  • Willingness to participate in the development of the HDI Global Singapore branch
  • Singaporeans or PRs preferred
