We are seeking an experienced Casualty Underwriter to join our established regional team. You will own and grow a portfolio of large and complex risks across South East Asia with a focus on Energy (onshore), Construction (infrastructure, industrial), Manufacturing, Life Science, and other capital‑intensive sectors. This role suits an underwriting professional who blends technical rigor, commercial acumen, and broker/client engagement to deliver profitable growth and differentiated solutions.

We are seeking an experienced Casualty Underwriter to join our established regional team. You will own and grow a portfolio of large and complex risks across South East Asia with a focus on Energy (onshore), Construction (infrastructure, industrial), Manufacturing, Life Science, and other capital‑intensive sectors. This role suits an underwriting professional who blends technical rigor, commercial acumen, and broker/client engagement to deliver profitable growth and differentiated solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting and Risk Assessment
- Underwrite complex casualty lines (e.g., General Liability, Product Liability, Clinical Trials, Umbrella/Excess, Environmental/PLL) within delegated authority, adhering to risk appetite and governance.
- Perform comprehensive risk assessments: exposure analysis, limits/deductibles structuring, coverage scope, terms & conditions
- Develop pricing using technical rating tools, and experience/account loss data; document rationale per underwriting standards.
- Lead negotiations for manuscript wordings and endorsements; partner with referrals to ensure clarity and enforceability.
Relationships
- Build trusted relationships with brokers, and corporate clients; craft multiline/program solutions (incl. primary, quota share, excess of loss or umbrella towers).
- Drive visibility through broker meetings, client workshops, and thought leadership on casualty risk trends
- Collaborate with Risk Analysis team to translate risk assessment findings into underwriting conditions, risk improvement plans, and pricing credits where appropriate.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Claims to analyse loss trends and improve coverage clarity; feed lessons learned into rating and wording guidelines.
- Contribute to product development, including enhancements and regional adaptations.
- Mentor junior underwriters/underwriting assistant and share expertise and foster a culture of technical excellence and customer focus.
Regulatory and Compliance
- Ensure underwriting practices comply with internal guidelines, frameworks, legal requirements, and industry regulations.
- Stay updated on changes in regulations, laws, and industry practices affecting casualty insurance.
Qualifications
Educational Background
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field
- Professional certifications preferred such as ACII, or CPCU are advantageous.
Experience
- At least 7-10+ years of experience in casualty underwriting, with a proven track record in managing large/complex accounts across South East Asia
- Strong knowledge of casualty lines, including general liability, employers' liability, product liability, and umbrella policies.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in underwriting tools, pricing models, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Solid understanding of legal, regulatory, and market developments in casualty insurance.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
- Technical rigor with pragmatic, solutions‑oriented mindset.
- Time management and ability to prioritize in a fast‑paced market.
