Clinical Leadership & Oversight:
- The Lead Veterinarian Specialist will provide strategic clinical oversight and departmental leadership for ECC Veterinarians and fellow ECC Specialists.
- Management responsibilities are embedded within regular clinical hours, with no separate administrative time allocated.
- Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to ECC veterinarians, especially in complex cases and procedures.
- Establish and recommend best-practice diagnostics and treatment plans for ICU and ward patients under ECC care.
- Attend ECC and general hospital inpatient rounds during shift hours, contributing actively to case discussions across departments.
- Maintain high standards of client communication, ensuring clarity and compassion in all interactions.
- Oversee the quality of care delivered by ECC nurses and technicians in collaboration with Day and Night Nursing Co-HODs.
Operational Management:
- Support ECC Co-HOD Nurses (Day & Night) in ensuring smooth departmental operations of the Nursing team.
- Lead weekly ECC team meetings (Day/Night shifts) to address operational concerns and foster team alignment.
- Participate in weekly higher management meetings to represent ECC operational priorities.
- Collaborate with the management team to optimize ECC revenue and service delivery.
- Contribute strategic insights to improve ECC workflow and service standards.
Emergency & Referral Coordination:
- Facilitate triage, diagnostics, and treatment for walk-in emergencies with efficiency and clinical rigor.
- Manage intake of referrals and coordinate transfers to other specialist departments as needed.
- Liaise with referring veterinarians regarding ongoing or transferred cases to ensure continuity of care.
Governance & Documentation:
- Ensure high-quality medical records across the ECC team, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement.
- Participate in performance evaluations for ECC veterinarians and nursing staff.
- Collaborate on the development and implementation of ECC-specific SOPs and best-practice guidelines.
- Participate in the interview and selection process for ECC veterinarians.
- Oversee nursing recruitment in coordination with ECC Co-HODs
Training, Mentorship & Development:
- Oversee onboarding and training of junior ECC veterinarians and new hires.
- Mentor veterinary interns and support senior ECC clinicians in achieving departmental goals, including VECCS certification.
- Spearhead ECC-specialised services such as blood banking and haemodialysis.
- Organize and contribute to journal clubs and shared learning initiatives.
- Encourage scholarly activity within the ECC team, including conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
- Represent Beecroft at local and international veterinary events as required.
