We are looking for a Research Associate to advance low-carbon cementitious materials and fire-resistant coating systems for concrete and steel. The role focuses on lowering embodied carbon while improving fire performance and durability, delivering practical solutions for a safer and more sustainable built environment.

We are looking for a Research Associate to advance low-carbon cementitious materials and fire-resistant coating systems for concrete and steel. The role focuses on lowering embodied carbon while improving fire performance and durability, delivering practical solutions for a safer and more sustainable built environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and optimise eco-efficient binders and assess mechanical and durability performance.
- Develop, apply and evaluate fire-resistant/intumescent coatings (adhesion, compatibility, corrosion protection, thermal-barrier efficacy).
- Plan and conduct material and fire tests (compressive/flexural strength, chloride ingress/RCPT, TGA/DSC, cone calorimetry, thermal conductivity/specific heat, furnace tests to ISO 834/EN 1363/BS 476).
- Build and calibrate heat-transfer/thermo-mechanical models.
- Perform life-cycle/embodied-carbon assessments and techno-economic analyses; draft application and maintenance guidelines.
- Prepare reports, journal papers and IP disclosures; liaise with industry partners; maintain laboratory safety and quality procedures.
Job Requirements:
- Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or related field
- Knowledge of fire effects on structures and progressive collapse analysis
- Familiarity with fire resistance safety standards
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Experience with precast concrete structure design and analysis
- Proficiency in structural analysis software and CAD.
- Competent in analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
