Job Purpose:

The Nursery Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children aged 2-3 years. This role focuses on fostering early social, emotional, cognitive, and motor development through play-based, engaging, and hands-on experiences.

Core Competencies:
  • Child-centred and play-based teaching approach.
  • Classroom management and patience with young children.
  • Creativity in designing engaging learning experiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Observational skills to track developmental progress.

Key Responsibilities:

Classroom Management & Care
  • Provide a warm, caring, and safe environment where young children feel secure and supported.
  • Establish daily classroom routines that balance structured and free-play activities.
  • Uphold high standards of classroom and age-appropriate behavioural management amongst students.
  • Ensuring the area of learning for both indoor and outdoor environments are regularly updated, intellectually stimulating and age accessible.

Teaching & Learning
  • Complete weekly planning of age-appropriate lessons and continuous provision that is inspiring and challenging.
  • Use songs, stories, art, movement, and sensory play to facilitate learning.
  • Observe and assess children's growth and development, adapting lessons to individual needs.
  • Participate in and organise enrichment activities, and contribute and participate in whole Junior school events and programmes.
  • Provide regular feedback and reporting on students' progress to senior staff and parents.

Social & Emotional Development
  • Encourage social interaction, sharing, and cooperation between children.
  • Support children in developing independence, self-regulation, and confidence.
  • Guide children through transitions, separation anxiety, and first experiences in a group setting.

Parent & Family Communication
  • Maintain open, positive communication with parents/guardians regarding each child's progress, well-being, and milestones.
  • Share daily updates and learning reflections.
  • Collaborate with families to support children's holistic development.

Professional & Administrative Duties
  • Ensure compliance with preschool policies, safety, health, and hygiene standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and developmental observations.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Regular liaison with other Staff such as Teaching Assistants, Specialist Departments and Junior School Leaders.
