Key Responsibilities
Fleet Technical Management
- Oversee day-to-day technical operations of the assigned tanker fleet, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant vessel performance.
- Monitor and follow up on technical issues reported by vessels and superintendents, providing guidance and solutions.
- Ensure proactive maintenance and repair programs in line with industry best practices, tanker standards, and vetting requirements.
- Review vessel performance, fuel consumption, machinery reports, and PMS records to optimize utilization and minimize downtime.
- Ensure compliance with Class, Flag, OCIMF/VIQ, and international regulations.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with ISM/ISPS, MARPOL, SOLAS, OCIMF, and relevant industry guidelines.
- Coordinate tanker vetting inspections, SIRE audits, and oil major inspections, ensuring vessels meet customer requirements.
- Lead root cause investigations for incidents, machinery breakdowns, and HSE issues, and implement preventive measures.
- Promote a strong safety and compliance culture across fleet and shore teams.
Budget & Cost Control
- Develop, review, and manage technical budgets for assigned vessels, including OPEX, repairs, and dry-docking.
- Monitor and control costs related to spares, lubricants, consumables, and major repairs.
- Identify cost-efficiency opportunities without compromising safety, performance, or compliance.
Dry-Docking & Projects
- Prepare, plan, and supervise vessel dry-dockings, major repairs, and retrofitting projects.
- Review technical specifications, yard proposals, and evaluate quotations to ensure cost-effective execution.
- Oversee project timelines, costs, and quality, ensuring vessels return to service on schedule.
Crew & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with Crewing and Marine teams on officer selection, briefing, and performance management.
- Conduct ship visits, inspections, and condition assessments, ensuring timely reporting and closure of deficiencies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with charterers, terminals, oil majors, classification societies, and regulators.
Requirements
Education & Certification
- Class 1 Chief Engineer (Motor) Certificate of Competency (mandatory).
- Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or related discipline (preferred).
Experience
- Minimum 5-7 years' shore-based experience as a Fleet Manager / Senior Technical Superintendent handling tankers.
- Seagoing background with senior rank experience on tankers (required).
- Strong track record managing tanker vetting inspections, audits, and oil major requirements.
Skills & Knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of tanker operations, vetting standards, and industry regulations.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills with the ability to manage diverse teams.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities with a hands-on approach to technical issues.
- Proficient in PMS systems, MS Office, and technical reporting tools.
