Bloomberg News is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to lead our South and Southeast Asia Equities Team in Asia, managing our coverage of top-down stories as well as stock movers in that region for both a local and a global audience. This is a diverse beat that never stops -- from the impact of an ongoing trade war on financial markets to the unstoppable financialization in India. The region has been a fertile ground for stories that resonate with global readers, including the Jane Street investigation in India and the market fallout from Indonesia's controversial sovereign wealth fund Danantara.

We are looking for a self-starter who thrives on organizing and directing coverage, someone who can develop the team to break news and unpack the inner workings of the region's markets on an hourly basis. Fast and accurate, you are a hands-on leader who enjoys working under deadline pressure. You are also able to help turn the team's insights into compelling, thoughtful stories for a sophisticated and informed audience, and ensure the dots are connected for our readers.

We'll trust you to:
  • Guide and develop a talented group of reporters with diverse skillsets to form a coherent and collaborative team under the broader Asia Equities group umbrella
  • Work side-by-side with the North Asia and Japan Equities team leaders to ensure seamless coverage of regional stock moves, trends, commentary and reaction to broad catalysts
  • Encourage the cross-pollination of ideas across Asia markets group, helping to deliver concise stories that explain global and regional flows and analyze trends
  • Develop strong relationships with local bureaus in the region and work closely with them on coverage; work with Equities team leaders in the Americas and EMEA to ensure we are effectively covering global trends and South & Southeast Asia's role in them
  • Help generate, craft and communicate stories that capture "what's happening and why" and "what it means" - against the backdrop of local and global trends
  • Help the group develop a large, diverse network of market sources for insights and scoops
  • Ensure the quality of the output produced by the team
  • Encourage reporters to tap Bloomberg data and analytics to tell visually appealing stories and make the best use of technology to improve our reporting processes and output

You'll need to have:
  • At least 5 years of financial journalism experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in a real-time news environment
  • Experience leading, mentoring or developing teams in a newsroom
  • A natural aptitude for collaboration, strong interpersonal skills and a drive to innovate
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure in an environment that's often measured in minutes and seconds
  • Proficiency in both spoken and written English
  • Bachelor's degree or degree-equivalent qualifications
  • Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization

If this sounds like you:
