The Role

The Business Affairs Manager will play a key role in the management of advertising content from a legal, regulatory, rights & relationship management and risk management perspective.

This role involves constant interaction with our Account Management, Creative and Production teams, as well as our Business Affairs counterparts in Los Angeles, London and across the region.

This position would be extremely well suited to an individual with substantial years of experience or knowledge of both the Business Affairs and Production Management functions as a project lead.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who has impeccable attention to detail, the ability to pro-actively guide a project through its various stages of development and manage juniors within the team on a per-project basis - all within a fast-paced, creative environment.

Key Responsibilities

• BA project lead, building and maintaining effective working relationships with Account, Planning, Creative, Production, Finance and Security teams and the global Business Affairs network.
• Concept, script, storyboard and edit review, applying a filter for Singapore and Malaysia, and other regional markets as necessary.
• Engaging local external legal counsel to advise on campaigns (across all media); digest, challenge + summarise feedback.
• Negotiating and contracting for a wide range of deals - including talent, image, music, photographer, illustrator & photographer agreements.
• Manage key partner, endorser, influencer and rights-holder relationships.
• Working alongside agency Producers & Associate Director to prepare the BA-related elements of a production including production agreements, insurance implementation, location clearance etc.
• Shoot and post-production attendance, providing on-the ground advice and support.
• Advertising pre-clearance through the relevant client and industry censorship bodies.
• Legal line development + liaising with LA counterparts on rationale, language etc.
• Monitoring and ensuring compliance with client and agency procedures and policies with vendors, talent, and third parties.
• Ensuring contract templates and appropriate know-how are up to date and best industry practices are adhered to.

Key Requirements

• Substantial relevant experience within a legal or business affairs function.
• A background working in marketing or advertising agencies with an inherent understanding of the functions within a creative agency.
• Specialist knowledge of the regulatory and clearance requirements for advertising content in APAC.
• Experience within the technology products and services sector, adding further necessary context to regulatory matters.
• Excellent practical experience in rights management, Intellectual Property, and contracting.
• Excellent practical experience in negotiating and licensing talent and/or content.
• Production management experience.
• Information security experience, namely vendor management security.
• Experience working with legal counsel, including assessing and digesting feedback.
• Experience working within a face-paced creative agency / environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills + a meticulous attention to detail and precision in approach to work.
• Proactive, organised and resourceful to ensure department operates as efficiently as possible.
• Understanding of Apple products, services and their capabilities an asset.
• Possesses a sensitivity to different cultures, languages, communication styles and business practices.
• Degree educated in a relevant subject.
