Manager, Media Relations

The Corporate Communications Office (CCO) works to enhance the University's reputation by raising awareness of NTU's vision and mission and achievements in education, research and innovation. The media relations role helps to build awareness of the University's activities and strengths by optimising media publicity for the University on various media and communication platforms, working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, its industry and academic partners, and various government ministries and agencies.

CCO is home to a world-class team of communicators that has won international, regional and local awards in public relations, marketing and communication over the last decade.

Job Responsibilities
  • To generate positive media publicity for the university on various media and communication platforms by working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, its industry and academic partners, and various government ministries and agencies.
  • To source across the university for newsworthy stories and research endeavours with a focus on science communication and translate the discoveries and innovations into positive stories in the mass media to help the university engage with its key audiences, including prospective students and faculty, the public, the NTU community, its supporters and stakeholders.
  • To develop communication plans for media publicity projects that may include new corporate initiatives and announcements, launch of academic and research programmes, and various achievements by the University and the NTU community.
  • To cultivate and maintain a portfolio of local and international reporters who would help facilitate positive media stories for the University.
  • Generate and pitch content for local and international media, to specialist publications and for the University's website and publications.
  • Field and respond to media queries promptly, aligning all responses with NTU's messaging.


Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism or other applicable disciplines.
  • At least 5 years' relevant experience in journalism is preferred. Those with experience in a senior editorial writing role or in a senior corporate communications role may be considered.
  • Excellent news sense and experience of news and feature writing and editing, and ability to convey messages succinctly, responsibly and accurately.
  • Possesses the maturity and confidence to handle corporate-level announcements involving university senior management
  • Demonstrated ability to independently produce clear, concise, and well written materials, tailored to a broad range of audiences and on both print and digital platforms.
  • Experience in producing multi-media content such as short videos, animation and publishing in new media channels will be an advantage
  • Being effectively bilingual would be an asset
