Role of system engineer primary is to manage/ administer Agency IT infra ( server)

Linux Engineers install, Configure, maintain and upgrade Linux servers, ( RHEL 7.9 and above)

These engineers configure and install all server hardware, including the OS and products procured from third-parties, onto the systems. They build, configure, assess, and recommend hardware and software changes/upgrade.

Engineer should possess above average analytical and fixing skills. Engineers own and run an issue with minimal intervention from others ensuring all relevant parties are informed on time.

Engineer having skills and knowledge on VMware products ( Esxi, VSAN.. ) and other datacentre virtualization tools would be added advantage

In addition to knowledge on Linux. Engineers must have the knowledge on firewalls and antivirus applications and perform upgrades of software and hardware if required They should demonstrate knowledge of network applications and TCP/IP protocols and possess essential knowledge about networking, such as DNS and IP.

Engineers should install and manage Windows Clustering and Windows Active Directory. They should assist teams when they migrate projects to the cloud( Azure, AWS, Google)

Engineers should have knowledge on managing Data centre, backup system configuration such as Veeam, Varitas netbackup.

Should have knowledge on enterprise storage system ( Eg. EMC)

In addition to day to day admin work; System engineer need to have knowledge on log monitoring tools such as : solarwinds, Splunk, Tanable and generate reports as required

Engineers are required to keep all systems upto date with latest patches

This requires

1. Track latest patches released

2. Perform UAT testing along with app vendors and track test results

3. Plan for patch implementation in production environment.

Engineers must perform as operationally required

1. Log review

2. Account review

3. Takeover systems from other teams ( app vendors)

4. SR management

5. Incident management

6. Should be alert and respond to Monitoring alerts.

7. User account creations

8. Provide consultation on infra related queries.

9. Escort vendors to operations room up on approvals.
