NIE invites applications for a Senior Learning Data Specialist/Learning Data Specialist position in the Centre for Innovation in Learning. This is a 2-year contract position.

The appointee will report directly to the Learning Innovations Manager and be essential in advancing innovation in teaching and learning by staying abreast of data-driven teaching practices, including teacher-facing and student-facing learning analytics. They will keep up to date with best practices and innovations in higher/teacher education, ensuring that data-driven approaches directly impact teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes. Additionally, the appointee will work closely with other teams in the department to research and adopt proven educational technologies and analytics tools that support real-time feedback loops for both faculty and students. These innovations will enhance teaching practices, enable personalised learning, and improve academic success. The appointee should be familiar with the higher education landscape and demonstrate strong facilitation skills, particularly in supporting faculty to leverage learning analytics for improved instructional design and student engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Learning Innovations Manager and Learning Data Specialists to examine department and project-level datasets using data analysis tools and teacher- and student-facing dashboards to optimise learning experiences and the learning spaces at NIE.
  • Collaborate across teams to:
    • Develop data-driven insights and strategies for faculty engagement, academic development, and the improvement of teaching & learning, while leveraging emerging technologies and learning analytics dashboards to foster innovation.
    • Assess the needs of faculty regarding the design, development, and evaluation of learner-centred, blended courses and course requirements, utilising learning analytics to inform decisions.
    • Identify strategies and tools to design, develop, and facilitate face-to-face and online tech-enhanced workshops (e.g., blended learning), emphasising data-driven professional development to support faculty in leveraging learning analytics for effective teaching practices.
  • Stay current with the best practices and innovations in teaching and learning in higher/teacher education, including personalised learning, adaptive learning, e-assessment, and hybrid learning approaches, integrating analytics dashboards to enhance faculty and student engagement.
  • Collaborate on initiatives with IN-Learning's Engagement, Planning, and Research team to share data insights and institute-wide knowledge, promoting a culture of data-informed teaching.
  • Conduct action research by:
    • Conceptualising frameworks and methodologies integrating learning analytics to enhance faculty and student performance.
    • Designing evaluation instruments that leverage dashboards for real-time feedback on teaching practices and student progress.
    • Gathering and analysing data from learning analytics tools, using teacher- and student-facing analytics to inform continuous improvement.
    • Formulating decisions and strategies that enhance the effectiveness of learning experiences and contribute to Faculty Development initiatives.
  • Participate in special projects focused on advancing teaching and learning, particularly through integrating learning analytics and emerging educational technologies to improve student outcomes and optimise teaching practices.


Requirements
  • A University Degree in Education, Learning Sciences, Business/Data Analytics, Applied Statistics, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years experience in learning analytics, instructional design, data-driven teaching, and development experience, particularly in using learning analytics dashboards.
  • To be considered for the Senior Learning Data Specialist position, candidates should:
    • Possess at least 5 years of experience in instructional design, teaching, learning, and/or the higher education landscape, with a proven ability to integrate data analytics into teaching practices.
    • Possess a proven track record of managing complex, data-driven learning projects.
    • Demonstrate experience in a mentorship role and in leading data-focused teaching and learning initiatives.
  • Possess strong analytical skills, including interpreting teacher-facing and student-facing learning analytics to support data-driven decision-making in teaching and learning environments.
  • Be well-versed with ICT tools for education, including learning analytics systems and dashboards.
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems (LMS), particularly in integrating learning analytics for both faculty and students.
  • Teaching experience will be advantageous, particularly if it involves data-informed instructional practices.
  • Ability to work independently and in diverse teams, particularly in cross-functional educational technology teams.
  • Ability to learn new tools and processes quickly with little guidance or support documentation, especially in the context of emerging learning analytics tools.
  • Possess creative thinking and problem-solving skills to develop innovative solutions optimising teaching and learning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders, including faculty and leadership.
  • Exceptionally meticulous in work details, particularly in handling and interpreting learning data for teaching improvement.
  • Experience using data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI) will be an advantage, particularly for creating interactive dashboards to inform teaching and learning decisions.
