ACADEMIC FACULTY APPOINTMENT: The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine

An Associate/Assistant Professor of Digital Health at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine is expected to contribute to the development of research and teaching at the School. He/she is expected to undertake high quality internationally leading research in the area of Digital Health in line with the overarching research strategy of Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, in addition to any other duties as assigned by the Vice Dean, Research and Dean.

Key Responsibilities

Job Purpose:
  • The appointee will be expected to undertake high quality research in the area of Digital Health, in line with the research strategy of the School and in conjunction with other recent appointments, obtain research funding and supervise research staff and students. Additionally, the appointee will leverage their experience in biomedical business, startups, and innovation to drive the development of entrepreneurial initiatives and innovative solutions in digital medicine.

  • Undertake teaching and educational responsibilities for training medical and postgraduate research students, utilizing extensive team-based learning and e-learning methods, and contribute to the integration of Digital Health science into the MBBS curriculum to ensure the delivery of excellence in these areas.


Primary Activities:
  • Undertake high quality research activities by sustaining a personal research plan, developing innovative research proposals and funding bids, managing and undertaking research activities, publishing in international peer reviewed journals, reviewing manuscripts and grant applications when appropriate.
  • Leverage knowledge and experience with business startups in digital medicine, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship to enhance research and teaching outcomes.
  • Lead and conduct cutting-edge research that integrates digital health technologies with entrepreneurial and business strategies, foster and develop partnerships with industry, startups, and other external stakeholders to advance the commercialization of research findings, and secure competitive grants and industry funding to establish and sustain a robust research program.
  • Promote innovation and entrepreneurship within the academic community by mentoring students and faculty in the development of business acumen and startup ventures, and translate research outcomes into practical applications, contributing to the growth of the biomedical startup ecosystem.
  • Seek competitive grant and collaborative industry funding to develop a sustainable research programme.
  • Contribute to, support, and develop teaching and educational activities at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Supervise and mentor junior faculty members and research staff.
  • Participate in academic committees and meet other administrative requirements as appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
  • MBBS/MD and/or PhD degree(s)
  • Relevant postdoctoral or clinical experience
  • Significant experience and outstanding, record of translational clinical research and teaching with a high level of scientific achievement, productivity and impact in the field of Digital Health


Management and Teamwork:
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work co-operatively with medical and non-medical staff
  • Ability to supervise research staff and students


Communicating and Influencing:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students
  • Ability to motivate others
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a team


Desirable attributes:
  • Experience in biomedical business practice or startups, with a strong emphasis on innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • Experience and desire to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and work in teams and to create networks at both a national and international level.
  • Fully conversant with patient-centred approach to modern medicine, and the use of new technologies and innovative digital health solutions in both education and patient care.
  • Understanding of the academic and administrative needs of internationally recognised universities.
  • Track record of having supervised graduate students to successful completion of PhDs.

The level of effort for this appointment is at 1.0 full time equivalent (FTE) employment.
