Job Description:
The Research Fellow will conduct research focusing on complex optical and plasmonic waveguide networks, with a view to applications in single particle bio-sensing, environmental monitoring and distributed sensing. The tasks of this position include:
- Develop novel, and build on existing, simulation tools capable of describing scattering, resonance, and transport properties of complex photonic and plasmonic waveguide networks
- Formulate theory accounting for bulk and localised perturbations to network parameters and generate supporting numerical data
- Quantify and optimise sensitivity gains achievable in micro-optical
- Perform literature reviews and stay up to date on developments in the field
- Disseminate results through publication in top-tier journals and conference presentations
- Contribute to research administration and assist in grant writing as required
- Supervise PhD and undergraduate student projects as required
Job Requirements:
- PhD Degree in Physics/Computer Science/Engineering/Mathematics or related disciplines
- Programming Experience: Proficient knowledge of Python
- Strong experience and knowledge in nano and micro-optical and plasmonic systems
- Experience in optical/electromagnetic modelling/theory
- Excellent knowledge of waveguide theory
- Experience in distributed sensing, optical networks and network theory is an advantage
- Good writing and communication skills
- Able to work well in a team and individually
- Good research track record. Prior high tier publications is preferred
- Min. 1-year research experience in related area
- Proficiency in English
