About the Role

We are looking for a Cloudera and Database Administrator responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, monitoring, and performance tuning of Cloudera, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server environments across Windows and Linux platforms.

This role ensures high availability, security, and recoverability of enterprise databases using technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Oracle Data Guard, Oracle GoldenGate, SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups, and Failover Cluster Instances.

Strong Cloudera expertise is mandatory.

You will work closely with application teams, infrastructure engineers, and security specialists to design and maintain resilient, secure, and high-performing database environments that support business-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration

• Install, configure, and upgrade Oracle (12c/19c/21c) on Windows and Linux servers.
• Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022) on Windows platforms.
• Manage database storage, schemas, users, roles, and access controls.
• Perform routine maintenance, patching, and performance tuning.
• Implement and manage backup and recovery strategies using RMAN (Oracle) and SQL Server native tools.

Big Data Platform Administration

• Install, configure, and manage Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) in Private and Public Cloud environments.
• Administer Hadoop ecosystem components including HDFS, YARN, Hive, Impala, HBase, Spark, Kafka, and NiFi.
• Perform capacity planning and manage cluster resources across compute and storage nodes.
• Configure and maintain Cloudera Manager for centralized monitoring and configuration.
• Implement data ingestion pipelines and ETL workflows.
• Manage HDFS quotas, replication policies, and data lifecycle strategies.
• Optimize Hive metastore configuration, partitioning, and query performance.
• Configure Apache Ranger for centralized security, access control, and data masking.

High Availability and Replication

• Configure and monitor Oracle Data Guard for disaster recovery.
• Implement Oracle GoldenGate for real-time replication across heterogeneous systems.
• Configure and manage SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Failover Cluster Instances.
• Implement HDFS high availability with NameNode and ResourceManager failover.
• Manage HBase replication and region server load balancing.

Performance and Optimization

• Analyze and tune SQL queries, indexing strategies, and database parameters.
• Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks at database and application levels.
• Use AWR, ADDM, Query Store, and Extended Events for diagnostics.
• Optimize Hive and Impala queries including partition pruning and execution plans.
• Tune YARN resource allocation and Spark workload performance.
• Conduct cluster performance assessments and implement optimization recommendations.

Security and Compliance

• Enforce database security standards, encryption, and auditing controls.
• Ensure alignment with internal data governance and industry security frameworks.
• Apply patches and remediate vulnerabilities.
• Configure Apache Ranger for role-based access control across Hadoop services.
• Enable encryption at rest and in transit for Cloudera components.
• Integrate user authentication with LDAP or Active Directory.
• Implement audit logging and data lineage tracking using Cloudera tools.

Monitoring and Automation

• Set up proactive monitoring and alerting using Oracle Enterprise Manager, SQL Server tools, and third-party platforms.
• Develop automation scripts using Shell, PowerShell, or Python.
• Configure Cloudera Manager alerts and health checks.
• Implement log aggregation and analysis using tools such as ELK or Splunk.
• Automate cluster provisioning and maintenance using configuration management tools.
• Build dashboards for cluster health and service-level metrics.

Disaster Recovery and Documentation

• Conduct periodic disaster recovery drills and validate failover processes.
• Maintain documentation of database architecture, configurations, and procedures.
• Participate in on-call support and incident response rotations.
• Implement backup and disaster recovery strategies for HDFS using snapshots and replication.
• Document cluster topology, dependencies, and operational runbooks.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related discipline.
• Good working knowledge in one or more of the following:
  
  • Relational Databases such as MS SQL Server and Oracle
  • Big Data platforms such as Hadoop, Hive, NoSQL, Sqoop, Cloudera
  • Database Activity Monitoring tools such as Imperva, Guardium, or Data Sunrise
• Experience working in both Windows and Linux environments such as Red Hat or Oracle Linux.
• At least one year of hands-on experience installing, configuring, or administering relational databases, big data platforms, or database monitoring tools.
• Strong experience with Oracle Data Guard and Oracle GoldenGate.
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Failover Cluster Instances.

Technical Expertise

• Oracle Database 12c/19c/21c including RAC, ASM, RMAN, OEM.
• MS SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 including SSMS, SSIS, SSRS, AlwaysOn, FCI.
• Scripting for automation using Shell, PowerShell, or Python.
• Backup tools such as NetBackup, CommVault, or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of networking, storage, and operating system fundamentals related to database performance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Oracle and/or MS SQL certifications.
• Windows and/or Linux certifications.
• ITIL Foundation certification.

Soft Skills
